Hi, i am new to se. i've heard these guys produce some of the best sounding music phones even better than the ipod.... is it true ?

you've heard that from a liar. walkmans are at ther bottom of the pile when it comes to audio quality. if you want the best, get a samsung(eg innova), nokia(eg n82), or a moto(eg E8 ROKR).

not only are sony ericssonss disadvantaged in the audio 'quality', but they also disadvantaged in their lack of 3.5mm jack.

So that's why the W980 won only 2 awards for its audio quality...

The EISA award was for Best Music Phone:

“Who could resist this piano-black Walkman-series phone? It’s a quad-band handset loaded with 8 GB of internal memory, a 3.2 Megapixel camera, an FM tuner, Bluetooth stereo, and a music player that operates even with the phone flip-lid closed. Opened out, the handset reveals its 2.2-inch QVGA display with 262k colors and stunning picture quality. One incredibly valuable innovation is the built-in FM radio transmitter. This broadcasts phone-based music playback to a standard car radio, even transferring artist and track details via RDS. The music player handles a wide variety of audio file formats, and automatically sorts tracks according to a range of criteria. Finally, two excellent features are the SenseMe and Shake control. These group tracks by mood, enabling track changes and entire playlist shuffling with just a simple flick of the hand.”

Tell me where you read anything about audio quality?

You say two awards. What was the second award?

Exactly.

So, have it your way, one award for overall music phone and one award for its sound quality. Still not good enough?

Check out the link below and please stop your BS...

the fact that you actually take such 'awards' seriously proves that you obviously believe a lot of BS.

try using the same headphones on the w980 and compare it with one of the better phones from moto, nokia and samsung. the only reason why the w980 scores well is due to the supplied headphones. the audio signal is very mediocre.

@Brightspark:
Actually, the guys from the TESTfactory evaluated W980's sound quality with special equipment. Therefore, they must have monitored its direct sound output. The supplied headphones have hardly played any part in the evaluation process, which renders your comment mostly untrue.

Actually have you tried this phone? No offense, but looking at how my dear phone is being bullied by some fanboys.

@brightspark

The BS that you referred to are awards given by respected bodies. So they are not BS in reality.

The tests done on w980 (i highly presume) are from audio labs done profesionally/scientifically.

The naked human ear is not an accurate tester of audio quality hence the need for audio tests.

And just to reiterate, w890 passed WITH FLYING COLORS the audiotest done by TESTfactory

That is not a BS.
That is what you call a compliment
