Minolta havent fallen back, they left the digital camera market in 2006 and the digital SLR arm was bought by Sony. The Sony Alpha range was born from Minoltas digital range and at the budget end of DSLRs are gaining sales ground on Canon and Nikon. The Sonys can use most of the lenses and flashes that Minolta made later on.

@nicv27, since you've mentioned that you did consider the A700, I'd say go for it if you're intending to stick with the Alpha. The A350 isn't that much of an upgrade from your A200. The A700 has more to offer and picture quality is noticeably better. The A700 is using a CMOS sensor which offers better noise control.
Also, the advantage of getting the A700 is that you can use your current lenses without needing any adaptors.

I was told any lens from 73/4 can be used?

I know JC but they will never be a leader in my opinion.
Maybe on a consumer level they have gained ground, but my comments are made on my experience.
You never see anything but Canon or Nikon in the professional field.

I never said that Sony was at professional level just saying that Minolta hadn't really gone away but had been reborn as Sony. Also have never seen a 450D used by professionals only things like 40Ds and 5D MKII's.

The software supplied with my A300 (same software as A350) says it works with Mac OSX 10.1.3 or later.

^ I'd love too but unfortunately i have to work this weekend and the Olympics won't build theirself. With Regards to camera choice I think it will be the Canon Eos 450d(I think I have made up mind now) and a new mac book to edit the pictures on after.
Thanks for all the advice it's been much appreciated

You'll want
Aperture 2 to go on that MacBook.
And a quick tip, avoid the Regent Street store.
Go to the Westfield one, it's decently big and nowhere near as crowded as Regent St.
