SE bet everything on the Satio for 2009.
But they forgot that the S60v5 is not a popular OS and the Satio is fat for a 2009 phone.
Meanwhile Android OS with HTC Hero and Milestone were gaining popularity.
SE is now betting on an Android phone aka X10...I hope it will help because I love SE and I don't want to see them vanish like Cadbury and Saab

Does OS popularity REALLY matter??? I mean everybody knows Windows but WM phones arent exactly flying off the shelves, im sure even your average iPhone owner doesnt know what OS it has, but they do know is its a smartphone with plenty of apps, games and a very fluid no nonsense UI that just works for them.

Just read in newspaper about Ericsson has cut a further 1,500 jobs. The paper says Ericsson bosses blamed latest cutbacks on falling sales on fierce competition from China. This was after already cutting 5,000 jobs in the past 12 months.

They're not getting much contribution from their joint ventures SE and ST-Ericsson, quite the reverse. If the global economic conditions remain difficult throughout the year if SE can't turn things around (and I think couple of the new handsets quite positive esp for me Vivaz and cousin - right price bracket I think) this year I don't think Ericsson will be able to commit the credit line to it that it did this year. Not a co fortable state; the next few devices are increasingly looking like the last roll of the dice. It has been painful watching them get themselves into this and despite the blindness of the fanbois it's really not what those who've criticised SE wished to see. Rather it's what certainly I've feared and if SE had listened to some of the more critical feedback and attempted to be the best rather than hog the middle ground since the K750/W800 they would have a more rounded porfolio to weather their troubles today rather than trying to create one on a shoe sting with over $1billion losses behind them in the middle of a recession.

Rather than the bile ridicule and hysteria that the mention of the iPhone can provoke how much better would it have been to take the best aspects and implement them too. Instead of which we have been treated to two and a half years of fanbois predicting Apple's demise and Sony's resurgence "this is SE's year the iPhone is all about advertsing and hype". Well now we have the unbelievable sight that the early mover in touch in the screen phone; Ericsson> SE are nowhere and a company that started making phones in 2007 in respeonse to SE's Wlakman range success are now the most profitable phone maker. Also sad to see that Apple are even catching up on phones shipped 8.7million vs SE's 14.6million which includes all of SE's mid to low range. If smartphone sales were extrapolated I doubt SE would get over 1 million. The 40% sales decline yoy doesn't suggest that the phone buying public really wanted mid range feature phones as much as the slavish panderings by some would suggest usually those at the front of the iPhone witch-burners.

I really really hope SE can survive as I wrote last year but the trouble I feared they were in has shown to be true and I think many on this site have done few favours to SE over the last couple of years through their devotion and promotion of middling at best products, good feature phones maybe but the world had moved on and the huge delay and then cancellation of the P5/paris was a massive warning of the trouble SE were getting into (were in already really having stopped investing effort in a smart OS) instead the acceptance and trumpting of phones like the W980 by many members was sad to see.

For the future I don't think, I'm letting anybody down or stiring up press hate or acting as Eldar's pawn or whatever other drivel the apologists like to come up with, if I say that the situtation look perilous to me, Mr Nordberg seems to be doing a good job on horrible circumstances (what's described in Rugby as a hospital pass) and I think their new handsets do geniuniely at last seem like a step in the right direction. I think the X10 fine handset though it is could possibly struggle thorugh being swamped by rivals on same OS (always the danger on Android) I think the Vivaz looks good at the mom and if priced right could sell really well as Nokia seem to have really messed up in the mid to upper tier at the moment and it's sibling looks good too and obviously whatever comes from MWC, but can SE survive say the failure of the X10 or anotheer handset or do they need them all to be home run hits?

Hmmm . . . First of all - I hate Nokia almost as much as I hate stupidity (not to use the word SE or Motorola). Unfortunately for both of us, Nokia posted a profit for the 4th quarter. Of course SE did not. My support goes to Samsung. I am the one who coined 'GoSamsungGo' To get back to SE - Is fine with me if you are confused, however, pleeease don't confuse others. You talk about 'a hell lot of profit' SE made during their 'good' days. Ofcourse, you fail to point out when exactly Yeah, agreed with 2008, but the rest were so-so. Sony and Ericsson regularly pumped money into SE and NEVER got back all of it! (especially sony) The best year SE had (2008) got wiped out the very next year (2009). Do the maths before killing me. It will be interesting to work out who lost more, Motorola or SE And finaly - you want to see a hyper smart phone? Wait another 5 months or so and watch out for Samsung. GoSamsungGo

Nice of you to come and gloat at the misfortunes of SE. If only you'd spend as much time in a dedicated Samsung mobile forum - we'd all be happy.

Yeah, well, sorry for posting the facts/truth I had to responde. He mentioned my name in his reply. I like the part where he writes 'is all for the good' while refering at SE's losses . . . WTF
