I believe VLC is also available on Cydia, if you're jailbroken

Apple updating the size/weight and processor is great but I agree updating the screen would have been perfect.

I'm still trying to figure out why I need one of these other than wanting one.

use one and you will see. thats what I did initially as I also wasn't convinced.

I use my ipad for much different uses than I do my iphone, there is probably only 20% overlap for me

I am slowly conincing myself that i want a 3G ipad 2, As you are a user of the orignal. How is the battery life when connected to 3G or wifi??

yes, I have the original.
I have 3g and wifi on all the time and battery life is excellent.
what drains the battery is watching a movie or playing intensive action games.

I recently timed a movie in order to decide on whether to get an external battery for my flight to oz in a couple of weeks. A 1 1/2 hour movie consumed around 20-22%, but this was also with wifi and 3g on as I forgot to turn them off before starting.

wow. that is certainly excellent battery life by the sounds of things!

im waiting for a cheap windows tablet to come out. ipads are overpriced (well, not as much as the iphones/macbooks, etc, but still. a bit more pricy than they should be). and quite frankly id rather stay on windows, but thats just because im used to it, and using the ios or whatever it is has no real benefit to me, even though it does look cool.

though saying that if the original ipads get reduced to £100-£200 very soon (used) then i may be tempted.
