The question is how well SE would be able to implement the "dual UI" mode without causing any further reported lag issues. But I don't thing there would be anything wrong with offering users the choice to use either option.

HTC used to have that option with their Windows Mobile 6.x devices which came with HTC Sense. I especially remember the HD2 having that option in settings.

@Geezay: not only 'how well' but also 'how long'.... That's my big gripe - I do not want to wait even 2 or 3 months until I can have ICS on my Arc. It's out there now, it's new, it's cool, it does cool shit. I want it ASAP. Simple as that.

I think things are fine as they are. You can unofficially install a bare Android ROM if you like, but these IMO aren't as good as the SE ones. There were several features in SE's 2.3.4 which are only now coming in bare Android with ICS e.g..

- Look of dock
- Ability to create folders by dragging
- panorama
- integration of social networks with contacts

Plus all the other features like better camera app, better looking music player and swipe to write etc.

Personally I also think that the UI of ICS looks rather ugly - it's as if it is trying too hard to look cool that it comes across as garish. It's also too dark for my liking, except for the woefully inconsistent contacts and calendar which look too bright - overall a hodgepodge mess! Hopefully SE can add some style and class to Google's tasteless mess. IMO SE's Gingerbread skin is one of the best looking out there.

I would bet that Sony will offer Android and Windows Phone in their range.

There is no chance they will offer vanilla android, is there? All the PS, Cybershot, Bravia technology will riddle all their mobile devices, won't it?

I suggest you go check out the Sony Tablet S. It has mostly Vanilla Android with few minor changes for the better.

And now my 2.3.4, freshly updated, is spontaneously rebooting for no understandable reason. About 15 times in about 5 or 6 hours.

It might be really good that Sony Ericsson is breaking up. If they are infecting their phones with bloated malware, then they wouldn't survive anyway.
