I understand that with the Class B GPRS used by the P990 (and apparently over 99% of GPRS phones), phone calls cannot be received while on GPRS. Maybe SMS, also on GSM network, is affected too?

Shouldn't be, at least not on the P990 - I often receive SMS while browsing, and send replies with GPRS active in background; also can send / receive SMS during a phone call.
Also today I received a call while using Opera Mini and it was fine. Of course if your Data access is via CSD then you can't, but GPRS and mobile calling is the equivalent of broadband and landline calling - both work alongside each other.
However this can be network dependant I'm sure - some networks in some countries may have differing priorities.
No doubt the P990 has issues in this area. It seems no P990 user is without some ailment or other :S
But it's the last P series phone we'll see...for sure.

It may depend on whether the GPRS is actually transferring and on a P990 Control panel setting. Check my-symbian, I think there's a rather detailed discussion there.

I thought the query WAS in general . . . but it looks like that it's ONLY for the - P990 model fone

when i was checking the settings on my p990, you have a option to select GPRS or GSM for the mode of SMS messages, i dont know if this will made it work better.

I /did/ have it installed before I de-branded and upgraded my firmware but not anymore.
I haven't installed any new applications either but have some old one's on my memory card. Some of which keep trying to re-install themselves which is quite annoying because I can't find what's causing it.
Anyway I'm going to format the internal memory and the memory card and report back because I've still had the problems tonight...

i found out what was causing the problem. it seems that my phone(W950i) wasn't telling me that the limit for sms has reached its maximum capacity. after deleting the 3 of the most recent messages in inbox, i started receiving my test sms's right away.
btw, i got to around 1390 sms on inbox and 1350 something on sent items, although it didnt matter how many messages i deleted on sent folder.

why on earth does anyone want to keep that many SMS? I mean its hard enough reading them all again, let alone managing them?
I've often read on esato that people want more and more SMS storage but this many just seems crazy!?
