I also had the same problem when calling people, its is silent when there should be a ringing tone...and then suddenly you hear the other person speaking.

A reboot of the phone fixes my problem but the problem comes back.

and ideas of a fix?

Sounds like a network thing to me. The tones comes from the network and not the phone. So if you get silent and then suddenly you hear the one you call, pick up. Then it's not your phone!

I get the same problem too, but i know for a fact on my side its down to bluetooth headset, or especially after connecting or being in the presence of a computer with a bluetooth switched on, and sporting the bluetooth headset profile. As was said earlier, it is searching for the bluetooth headset to transfer the call (i have the prefered device set to headset) the best solution i think is to turn off the bluetooth (set it to auto) and see if that makes a difference.

Another thing you also wish to look at is if you have oggplay or the Audio player loaded, it may be interfering with it.

Basically the phone is trying to centend with different source of input/output, and if the other person picks up before the contention is successfull it simply transfered immeadiaately to the phone. But yeah its kinda scarey.
