Talking about headphones, the SE ones that came with the phone had blown within weeks, and were OK but not brilliant. My wife put them through the wash as well which probably killed them!!
I just kept the bit from the socket up to the handsfree module, opened it up and soldered in a pair of similar Sennheiser in ear phones.
Quite a difficult job to do, but with a couple of burned fingers I now have a FANTASTIC sounding set of phones and I can still use the handsfree bit that came with the phone. They are Sennheiser MX400 and cost £10 from Maplins. If used with the foam bits the bass is astounding and the treble sharp and clear on 64Kb/s Ogg files. Far better than the ones supplied with the phone.
Best personal stereo I've ever had.

there is a headphone adapter that someone is selling on ebay
you can then use normal headphones

call me greedy but im converting to 48.2kbs and the songs play clear and fairly good but i manage to fit 9 albums on my 128 duo and seeing as its a phone i think thats amazing.

Spent the evening seeing how many tracks I could fit on the 16MB MSD. Not many, but it was good experience just to see how the different RIP rates faired vs. each other. The phone sounds great, doesn't it!
