Thats what I do. I use Musicmatch to convert MP3s to WAV. Then I use my WAV editor to cut. So all of my ringtones are editted by me. Ringtones: Theme from Smallville; made it to sound like how it is in the series, Year 3000, Unwell and This side. Message tone, several: Homers burp sound, Bart's laugh, a portion of a song; THIS IS A STORY OF A GIRL, WHO CRIED A RIVER AND DROWNED THE WHOLE WORLD, a variety of female erotic voices and some PC games sounds from Global Ops. My Alarm tone is the sound of the alarm in a bomb shelter. All I need now is the voice from the Viper car alarm. This message was posted from a P800

I use SoundForge to trim my wav's that I rip from my CD collection using winamp.

I've recently started using the GSM 6.0 codec. It's the same codec your phone uses I think for calls and for the voice recorder. It's pretty powerful at reducing the file size but it'll only really work with vocals. So far it messes up the backing music.

Quick example of it I had a 10sec clip of Oasis - Cigarettes & Alcohol
PCM = 22.5k 8bit mono = 234kb
GSM = 22.5k 8bit mono = 43kb

That kind of compression comes at a price though. Like I said the music gets real messy. Though for all you looking to use voice clips I would recommend it. You shouldn't have to look for it either since it's already on most systems.

I've started to sort out appropriate tunes for when my mates call. The oasis one is for a northern monkey wannabe mate of mine.

And I'm working on the streets - irony of it all. The one where 'Terry' goes "You stinking student Lamo!" obviously for a student mate of mine.

I'm also working on ramping up the volume on Mario Piu's - Communication. The 'somebody answer the fone' track. I want to get that mobile interference sound going. It's a bit too quiet at the moment but I think I can get it noiser. Afterall I want to be able to hear it.

I want to sort out a innocuous but distinct coughing sound for when I'm at the cinema. Really want a profile option on the phone for that though, buts thats another thread...

Any more out there?
