China and US are the biggest cell-phone market these days. That's a fact. Europe is minor.

GSM *is* by far the largest cellular system on Earth. But that doesn't mean one should only focus on GSM. CDMA is of crucial importance for a mobile manufacturer esp. in Asia and in the US.

Now SE is loosing market share every day. Last data to date is 1Q03. Now SE is below the 5% mark, and struggling to "keep" its 5th position against LG.

I dont think that prices have anything to do with it. And have made/are making some excellent phones.
The problem is that they joined the market too late. make high performance phones to rival Nokia, but Nokia have been around so long that people are used to their phones. They like the features and the way the phones work. The majority of users are not going to venture away from what they know and are comfortable with.
I think that if were to try and make their mark on the cheap phones area, rivaling trium, NEC e.t.c then they may be able to crawl their way out of the hole they are in.

Phil.

the companies separately have been loosing money for ages which is why they put up shop together. It's obvious that they'd still be using money now too. Walmart is the world's biggest supermarket chain at yet they have pratically no shops outside the USA. In other words just because a manufacturer is taking market share over SE doesn't mean they're any better. You need to remember that most of the phones sold in the USA wouldn't stand a chance anywhere else.
The simple fact is China is the market everyone wants to break into; the only reason anyone would look at the US is because they can still bring out poorly featured phones and yet still be seen as cutting edge.

You need to remember that making phones for europe is getting a lot more expensive as all the networks are asking for 3g compatable models.

Well, that's your opinion. I personally think that is the only manufacturer (except Samsung) who knows how to make a nice, clean design. Unlike N*kia....

SE will never make it to the top or anywhere near even though they are making good phones. That's mainly due to:

1) There's some flaw or the other in most of their phones
2) Availability of accessories is pathetic
3) after sales/customer service really sucks

Just making a great phone is not enough. SE needs to back it up by rock solid service and accessories.

I'm from India and believe it or not the HPR 20 FM Radio handsfree is still not available in India. Its been launched ages ago. The local distributors/dealers give 'blank looks' when I ask them about MSDuo.

Thats why a phone like T68i is practically unknown in India although it provides way to many features for a much lesser price compared to Nokia.

I believe only one thing might help:
Meet the top management of SE and beat the sh*t out those guys. Thats the only way to make them listen to customers.

Service and support and availablity of accessories is great over here, but I guess that's because I live in Sweden.

SE is one of the best companies when it comes to accessories, no other company is even close when it comes to the amount of accessories for the phones.

I love the SE designs. The T610 is one of the best looking phones on I've ever seen. The T310 looks pretty good as well at least in real life. The T100 also looks very nice. Nokia phones looks like toys compared to SE phones.

It's true what you say about the accessories, I've never had to replace one of my ericsson accessories to fit a new phone.
