hey, nokia dont make their own cameras. its actually Agilent Technologies, which WAS once a subsidiary of HP, but split off. my school just organised a field trip to their company over here in singapore, and i saw the camera used in the 7250. its pretty damn small.

Bonc, look at your phone. Then, look at your digicam (borrow one from a friend). Think about a phone as big as a T610 and a digicam, combined.
Now, would you buy such a thing? A phone with a decent sensor inside and a nice lens (I guess you also want at least a 3x lens ) will be far bigger than even the 7650 brick!
At most, the best phone camera can have the same quality as a decent webcam. Don't even think to print the images...

If your taking a row boat out into the ocean in the first place, god help ya!

A PHONE WITH AN INTERGRATED CAMERA IS MEANT TO BE USED AS A PHONE FORMOST AND CAMERA SECOND.

fine.

but what is the point if the camera is crap - dont make no sense, might as well not be there.

Remember so many other phones do it better and charge less. Dont get me wrong I love the phone, I only wish that when that pretty sales woman was showing me the features of the phone, I had of been paying more attention to her demonstration....

I think the T610 produces pretty good pictures. Compared to the 7250 the picture quality is about the same (viewed on a PC, when viewed on the Phone the 7250 isn't even close). Nokia doesn't have a better camera in their phone. I don't know why people are complaining about it. The camera has a resolution 288x352 and pictures can't be perfect with that resolution, but they are pretty good. If you compare the T610 with a webcam with 352x288 resolution the T610 produces good pictures.

Of course you can't compare the quality to the P800/Nokia 7630/3650 because they have almost twice the resolution of the T610/Nokia 7250.

firstly, to agree with the above... phone cams will always be worse off than a proper digicam. I have a Sony Mavicam floppy disk based digital camera that "only" does 640x480, yet the quality (at that resolution) of that beast whips the pants off ANY cell cam (and even most megapixel cams too). Its GREAT for using abroad too, take photos, gets stored on a floppy, go to yoru localinternet cafe... attach to email... send... simple.. not as simple as sending it striaght from the phoen, but.. not too bad.

as for phone cams, i dont see now either SE is consistantly better than Nokia or vice versa. In my use the best cam i have seen is the MCA20/MCA25. Sure pics taken look crap on the screen, but on the PC look great.

In comparison the 7650 at VGA res is slightly worse (poor colour) and i dont even want to start on the P800 (whats with the STUPID combing effect at VGA res???) yet on both phones the pictures look resonably good on the screen of these phonse..

at the T610/7250 level, both are roughly the same, but pictures look slightly better on screen on the T610.

end of the day these cams were primarily designed for quick MMS photos. and they ALL do a great job on that.

the point is, at some classes Nokia is better, in some classes SE is better, and NEITHER two can beat a decent Sony digicam with their carl zies lenses at any resolution!

Oh and i dont even WANT to start on the crappy night mode feature.... in that sense seimens did the right thing by including a flash!

Could anyone post some sample pictures taken with T610, P800 and Nokia camera phones? This would end the discussion once and for all.

really gotta tweak the image processing to get rid of the pixelation on the high contrast areas.
