Yeah, it's called digital zoom. That's when you take a picture, and make it larger by inserting some pixels inbetween, while guessing what color they should be, judging by adjusent pixels in the original.
If you do that, and crop the resulting image to the same size as original, you get digital zoom.
If you don't crop the resulting image to the same size as original, you get a "higher resolution" image, but that's just an illusion, because all this "extra" information was guessed.
an example:
Take a picture with 640x480. Then take the same picture with 1280x960. Now, enlarge your 640x480 image to 1280x960. Do you get same resultion? yes. Same quality? hell no.
this example can't be directly applied to CCD mpx though, since higher mpx cameras take simply larger pictures, not higher quality pictures (at least not due to the CCD chip alone).
I guess what I am trying to say is, you can't take an originally bad image and make it better by using an effect which by itself negatively affects the quality. I would much rather see
fix that "pixelation on high contrast", then give us digital zoom. Digital zoom I can do in photoshop.

massur you still cant jump up from 0.1MP to 1mp useing interpolation you could realisticly jump from 0.1 to 0.3-4.
im basing this on the fact that interpolation works by guessing pixels so if there is a black pixel with 3 red round it and a yellow it would jus add a pixel of the same color next to them in a simalar pattern. therefore if you add more than 3-4 pixels per origanal pixels the image will start to look pixelated. abit like when you zoom in in paint

hmmm.. yeah I agree with your digital zoom comments and if we are not cropping then yes I also agree with the comment that a picture taken at a native resolution will always win in quality over one that is interpolated because, as you say, it is guessed.
However I was really arguing with your original comment in this thread that "no firmware upgrade could ever increase resolution" and I think we are agreed now that in fact a firmware upgrade could increase resolution though the results would not be the same as if they actually replaced the T610 cam with a higher resolution one.

For me, image resultion is the resolution of the original source image, as taken by the hardware. Everything else that follows is just permutations of that one image.
Maybe if I rephrase myself... Firmware can not increase the resolution of the image, but it can increase it's size.
