@Jah, In the UK, the XDA was VERY expensive to buy sim free, making it more money than it was worth they were around $1000.
Also originally i think it was ONLY available to o2 network, a ploy which ALWAYS is financial suicide for a manufacturer.

Never mind o2 and orange. They have just branded the phone from HTC. Go check out the I-mate ( Same thing ) for international users.

@ Patchi or Patchy, you’re weak. You don't even have the intelligence to know when someone is taking the piss our of your name.....
Anyway.
My contact in Dubai said that the XDA2 is £575 including delivery to UK.
I do agree with previous post, you would look a bit strange with that next to your ear.
But the spec is great.
.....P900 OR XDA2.....

I am sure I have said this before here at Esato, that is, from my experience a purchase decision is part logical and part emotional. So if you really want to buy a XDA II buy one.
I personally prefer the P900 because it is designed to be a phone and I know that even if I have a BT headset handy sometimes it is more natural to use the phone as a handset. It is a good compromise between a PDA form factor and a phone form factor.

Jah,
I hear what you are saying, but the whole reason I have posted this was to find out if anyone knew the flaws of this product, and to share their comments.
Of course the decision is mine, that goes with-out saying but before making said decision it is important to discuss and investigate.

To all people's.
Don't forget that the P900 only a replacement for the P800.
The real P1xxx is comming end of the summer, that is a real phone and PDA killer

Well as I mentioned in an earlier post I bought an XDA2 on Friday and still undecided if I will keep it or take it back & get a P900.
All the multimedia stuff is awesome:
wma good quality small file music on a 512MB SD (though supplied ear-buds are crap. Sound better with P800 ones)
Video playback at full size movie quality without any glitches.
Recording of video with sound at 320x240 directly into mp4 files.
Plays most of the mp4 files I have for the P800 (but some without sound).
Camera seems better than P800 but still not excellent..
Multitasking better (at least when you open another application it doesn't close down the previous one or bring it back to start-up state like with P800).
Having 128mb built in RAM is fantastic- everything is fast.
Not crashed yet!!!
Initial downside:
GPRS tariff options/cost with O2 are crap compared to orange.
No built-in GPRS logger/monitor so you know how much you have used (but you can get excellent Spb GPRS monitor for $14).
As a phone it is very basic with one handed operation limited to answering a call or dialling a call directly or as a Speed Dial. Sound quality is good (IMO) and had no problems phoning yet.
Not been able to try GPRS yet as the SIM has not been enabled yet (upto 2 days). Built in browser obviously better than built into P800 but I will miss Opera with small screen rendering.
Not managed to set-up a Bluetooth ActiveSync with PC yet but no problems transfering files from P800 to XDA2 but how to send from XDA to P800?? still only seams to have built in option to beam a file by infra-red.
If you mainly want a phone with basic PDA/multimedia then go for P800/P900.
If you want a Pocket PC PDA with easy email/web over GPRS & don't want to carry a separate phone its the PDA of choice.
Looks & feels like a proper aluminium case and oozes quality, I would see build quality is as good if not better than high end iPAQ's.
Why choose the P900 over XDA2 - still can't decide but you get a lot of Quality PDA for your money with masses of features but weak as a phone if you use a lot of phone features.
Any questions I will try to answer. I have about another 10 days to decided if a keep or send back.

Psikey,
Thanks for your input.
I know you touched on it a little even on full screen, are movies still smooth....and does it feel strange to have the thing next to your ear.
I realize that it does come with hands free, but knowing myself I would use it more as a conventional phone.

It looks about 10-12mm wider than P800 which makes it feel a bit weird but I am fine holding it upto my ear and it sounds good. It is smaller than an iPAQ 3800/3900/5000 series but not as small as the 1900/2000 series iPAQ's. Signal strength I get where I live is stronger than I get with P800 on Orange.
The GPRS connection has just established and put an immediate smile on my face. Web/Wap/email/O2Active working great & appears fast. Downloaded trial version of Sbp GPRS monitor & it adds far more than the P800 built in monitor. You can enter the tarrif and it constantly monitors daily/weekly/monthly use with configurable alarms & calculates cost!
Don't know if it is a feature of this version of the Windows OS or something special to the XDA2 (never seen it before) but it has power options for enabling things like repeating alarms. Thinking about it it might be a new feature of Battery Pack 2003 application which I have installed & is a MUST HAVE. Also have AgendaFusion installed so all built in PDA functions are vastly improved.
Now that GPRS is enabled & GPRS monitor ensures I don't commit financial suicide I am swaying more to keeping the XDA2. Really is a fabulous machine (P800/P900 still better for stand-alone phone us).
Essential software for me already installed and working:
Battery Pack 2003 (but backlight control doesn't do anything)
Spb Full Screen Keyboard (turns the whole machine into a widescreen keyboard)
MobiPocket Pro 4.7 (much much better than P800 version)
Agenda Fusion (PDA enhancements)
Resco Utilities (Explorer, Picture Viewer, Task Manager)
Rayman Ultimate (works fine)
Ref: Movies
The camera records movies with sound at upto 320x240 in mp4 format which is full screen of the PDA. The image you get while recording the video is at full screen and very smooth while panning. The video quality is excellent even better than what I recorded from the camera of my VAIO TR1MP which stored in mpeg2 not mpeg4.
With third party viewers that isn't any movia format you won't be able to watch. The screen quality & size together with a 512/1GB SD card means you could watch converted near DVD quality movies on the screen. I have currently watch movies in wma,mpg1,mp4 format at full screen with good quality sound with no problems at all. The P800 (and likely P900) movie playback is like a gimick compared to this 128MB 400MHz Pocket PC.
Add to this the fact that the PC WMP9 recognises the XDA2 & downloads music in wma format with small files comparable to ogg on P800 and all communication is by proper USB (not slow serial/usb as per P800/P900). Always used to take out memory card from P800 to put in a USB reader, no needed to with the XDA

@psikey
Did you know that Sandisk sell a WiFi SD card with 128MB of memory for PPC devices? This would make your XDA II a seriously connected device! Only GPS missing (sadly the Motorola A920 has BT, GPS and is capable of using the WiFi SD card but no drivers are avialble).
