The Z1010 is definately dual-mode (UMTS/GSM-GPRS) which I think is what he meant by 2g/3g crossover.

ah, I see what you're getting at. I read the term 'cross over' as 'somewhere in between'

A smartphone is a handset with an open operating system, like Palm, Symbian or Microsoft smartphone.
Any phone with a closed, proprietary operating system is not a smartphone.
the Z1010 is not a smartphone.

3G phone,whick can work in 2G networks too.It has Mp3 and Video player,but this does not mean that it is a smartphone.The smartphones are phones which are working on Simbian or Microsoft OS.Thay have PDA functions and CPU.
