i find it interesting how Middle-Earth Mania extends even into the world of music

but seriously, the whole thing was saved by the fact that someone with ability rather than profile won, although profile ran a close second. if the votes had been truely based on ability the results would have been different IMO - kurt, guy and kelly in that order (maybe guy in first, but kurt's voice lends itself to a more widely popular genre - after all he did an almost pitch-perfect impersonation of arguably the best band the world has known, while guy went for a more original arrangement).

having said all that, there were never enough votes to give a real indication. even the organisers admitted as much - although kurt was a clear leader everywhere he came first. there were definitley some gifted singers who were under appreciated, while others (especially kurt and peter) got a sizeable "middle finger to the judges" vote because they were criticised for their image. we had a similar thing in Australian Idol, where one of the contestants was lambasted for her appearance by the judges and consequently received a huge sympathy vote that week.

all in all the whole thing was a complete sham. only time and album sales will determine the true "world" idol.

You seem to have misunderstood my objection.
I was just mad cos this was originally posted in the

forum and last time I checked PopIdol has not much to do with SE or phones at all!!! It has since been moved.

As for being upset at losing, I'm not. I didn't even know who was representlng UK!
I just hate all this manufactured band crap and avoid it at all times!

P.S. well done to that guy who won, dunno if he was any good though. Maybe now he can get some braces for those teeth!
