well, i spoke to onestopphoneshop and they told me that.also, that mate i mentioned,he got his from carphonewarehouse and he didnt get his 32mb memorystick! he went back to complain, and get this-they told him they'd usually take from another box, but as they had no more p900s in stock(due to aforementioned firmware problem), he'd need to wait til more came in!

It is kind of depressing that even though the P900 is an incremental upgrade of the P800, there are so many minor issues. I think the P9 will be my last SE/UIQ handset, I can't be bothered with a phone that only works properly for half the time I own it.

I doubt it. Find a phone with no issues that can do what the Pxxx series line has been able to offer and come back to tell us about it.

Hmmm.. The XDAII maybe?.. can do more than the P900, is larger.. but a lot more powerful. Less bugs in it too

I ordered from onestop... on the 11th... order status says 'awaiting delievery to warehouse'. When did they say they'd have them in, the end of this week? I am not as fussed, because i don't get back to england *i am in the US now * til sunday. I got 128Mb Duo and BT Dongle on the way, so i am kinda excited. *blush* - maybe its cuz i've had shitty nokia for the last year? *Sigh*

Somewhat true, but the XDA II is primarily a Pocket PC which just so happens to have a GSM Phone tacked onto it. The P900, however, is still mainly a phone but with some (pretty good) PDA functionality. I guess it depends what you want, but for me I need mainly a phone. Plus the XDA II is HUGE!!

I don't doubt it. One year of P800 ownership and 1.5 months of P900 ownership has taught me that these devices are getting too complex for the manufacturers to obtain the necessary level of quality control. My first few months with the P800 were blighted by crashes and blueooth problems. The P900 is an incremental (i.e. minor) change in terms of functionality, yet still they have managed to release if with major problems. If they can't get what is essentially the same phone right after 2 years of trying, they should start thinking about something else.

The lesson I have learned is that the phone manufacturers are now following the PC software/game model. The SE home update facility is primarily there so they can release a phone with less testing time/more known bugs that usual, and then 'patch' it up as they go. So the learning is this - do not buy the phone within 3 months of release, 6 months if possible. Give it time for the inital users to do the 'field' beta-testing and for the first 4 or 5 critical firmware updates to be released, then think about buying. I certainly won't be queing up to buy the P1000 (or whatever) until it has been in the sweaty hands of the general public for at least 4 months.

The other key point you are missing is that I don't need a phone that can everything the Pxxx series can do... Give me a reasonably sized phone, that crashes less than once every 2 months, with all phone features working from day one and a good contact manager, organiser and e-mail app (web browser a bonus) and I will be happy. The camera, video recording, sound recorder, polyphonic ringtones, etc. I can live without.

You know, I wouldn't mind if it was the calculator that crashed, or the WAP browser, or the Task app, but when it's something you rely on to make and receive calls, you begin to wonder how serious they are about the technology.

I have a P900 and have very few problems. Only one issue and that is with BT. I think it might have crashed once since mid-Nov 03 but not sure. Very often I find that third-party apps cause the P900 problems and people feel it is an UIQ issue.
