Actally TFT should be better than TFD which means T630 should have better screen than Z600.
That's something I would like examined by someone who has both.
TFT is used in laptops and samsung phones for example. STN and TFD are less power consuming alternatives for TFT.
That's why I'm also interested in comparing Z600 and T630 practical battery time.
Too bad T630 doesn't have dedicated speaker for polyphonic signals. Sound from the buzzer is really weak.

How will TFT 'work better' than TFD, if TFD is make specifically for mobile phones? I have a laptop thats hard to see in the sun, I have no such problems with my Z600. The brightness is little different and clarity is the same on both, so I dont see how TFT is better.

I think the Z600 does feel somewhat "FAT", I dont like Fat things.. the last fat thing I had was my P800. Now it is slim things all the way!... T630 here I come!
But then I have never liked Clam phones. The other weird thing with the Z600 is that it makes a click'in noise when opening the clam shell. That is kind of tacky. IMHO

@saka: what it should be and how it actually is are usually vastly different things. i'm just saying that from what i have read on the net, people seem to think that the z600 screen is marginally better than the t630 (which is still appreciably better than t610).
i'm damn sure somebody on esato said the same thing, but i can't find it now. in theory tfd and tft should be indistinguishable quality-wise, but tfd has a lower power consumption. my gut-feel is that irrespective of quality though, the z600 should have better battery life than the t630 - if only because when closed the screen is turned off.

interesting. most other people loved this because it gave a solid sense that the phone was fixed open, rather than the loose feel you can get on other clams. nearly every review i read praised the "satisfying" click.

yeah i like the click sound too. as mentioned a few posts above, TFD is supposed to be brighter and has lower power consumption than TFT, and was specifically designed for mobiles.
here are some pics i downloaded from i don't remember where of a Z600, T630 and T610 beside each other and the Z600 looks to have the best/brightest picture quality.

@virtualtears: TFT is the best technique for liquid crystal displays in general. Allthough they can differ very much with regards to manufacture. TFD is specialy designed for mobile phones to enable as good image quality as TFT only with less power consumtion. Besides that Samsung and Panasonic phones use TFT and they are well known by their high quality displays. That's why I assumed TFT would be better.
@gelfen: You are right, theory is one thing and reality another. That's why I was intrested in practical aspects.
@senninha: Thank you for that images. Z600 display really looks much brighter on that picture. I wonder if their response time is also the same.

Something about T630 display I found in a review of T630 on
http://www.mobileburn.com/review.jsp?Id=572
Quote:I had the chance to compare the quality of the Z600's TFD screen, and the Samsung E700's TFT screen with the one in the T630. Compared with the Z600, the T630's screen gives more color detail and blends the colors better. It's also slightly brighter. Side by side, the Z600's screen is noticeably larger, but also not as sharp. This could be because the pixels on the Z600 are larger than those on the T630, creating a sharper image on the T630. Samsung is known to be a leader in mobile phone displays and the E700 did not disappoint. I found the E700's screen to be better than the T630's because it was brighter and more vivid. Still, most users will be more than happy with the T630's display, and it's a major improvement with the one found in the T610.
It should also be noted that T630 has covering plastic which can slightly decrease display appearance to the contrary of Z600.
Display comparison here:

Hmmm....interesting. I still think the Z600 pics look better. Its true the plastic covering on the T630 does dull it down a bit.

I wrote before in the same topic as T630 owner and now i write again as Z600 owner!! I swap phones with a friend cause he liked mine more.
Z600 has bigger screen and can give you the impression of slightly higher quality comparing to 630 screen. Anyway, both have great screens but i have the impression that 630 software has better implementation for the camera. I transfered some of my 630 pics to Z600 and they look a bit better than some i took with the Z600.Ofcourse the conditions i took the pics weren't identical but my experience with these phones tells me that there is a small difference.
Also the sound that comes from Z600's audio speaker seems cleaner, with less hiss and more quiet background.
