Is this a joke? Will someone swap just for polyphonic ringtones, games and SNT screen, and loose the MUCH more important PC synching capabilities, built-in modem, extended phonebook fields (7 against 3!!!), shortcuts, profiles, 800kb dynamic memory (against 400kb!!!), voice activated dialing, full calendar with event reminders, and most important the IR and Bluetooth ports??? I mean, do you even have to ask yourself???...

PS. I think you can prioritate yourself which one is a 'serious phone' and which one is a 'toy phone'...

It's not as if he's required to hand in his old phone is he? He could always get one on the side (praps even sell it on ot give it away)

I too am a bit confused as to why or AT&T label this an upgrade must be something to do with 850 mhz band

Yes, it is because of the 850 MHz band, that they are giving ou the T226. Yes, we all know that phone sucks compared to the T68i, but what can you do? Read here.

And for the WAP'ers:

The reason they’re sending us the T226 free is because AT&T is upgrading the network with the new 850 band which the T68i does not have. So in places where you now get poor reception with the T68i (which in my case is frequent) the signal will be much better with the T226. The problem with their offer is that features of the new phone do not even come close to equaling the T68i ( i.e. bluetooth, calendar, etc) and the only one that does is the T616. I called to see if I could upgrade the offer (even for a reasonable charge) and after waiting over 20 minutes on hold they said it would cost $159 with a one year service extension, which is worse then the current $99 offer for a new contract. This is one reason their losing customers and had to combine with Cingular. Obviously there wasn’t much thought put into this offer and if more people call and complain they may reconsider.

It's taken from the AT&T WS forums.

I'm not required, but if all the sudden my phone stops working everywhere what else can I do? I'll have to buy a T616.

Oh so thats why the insurance sent me a t616. Im on att and the t68 was awful and they couldnt downgrade me hence the t616.

As far as the switch a lot of people dont have a clue or dont use bt or ir. Before I got edecated I probably would have switched but I love my t616.

Yes but this would also be the case when there was no 'upgrade' offer going on wouldn't it?

My point is, if the T226 is free.... go and get it and you won't be forced to toss aside the T68 imho. If it's not even free (as one of the recent posts suggest) then imho you'd be better off getting a T616 in the first place

I'm speaking with a customer now who received the same offer. She contacted SE this morning and was told that she would not be forced to return the T68i, that they only requested it's return for recycling purposes. If this is the case, then this deal sounds a little better.
