well said flying finn

and maybe SE should change their marketing strategy... what about ... high tech + affordable price...
maybe that way they could narrow the gap bet SE & nokia as far as sales and market leadership is concerned....
and maybe i could finally afford a P900... LOL...

@rowenacruzcarlos
You're not comparing a P900 with a series 60 phone, are you?
How much do you think the new Nokia Communicator will cost?
Because it's the only Nokia phone you can compare to P900.

I'd love to see SE producing a Series 60 phone
Come on.. Nokia, Siemens, Sendo, Samsung, Panasonic have done it..

I don't think that SE will ever make a series 60 for the simple fact they they have their own non-touch-screen UI (Cant remember the name...).
So my guess is that SE used UIQ because they needed a touch screen UI so they licensed it instead of spending $$$ developing one.

======
U r refering to market segmentation. In this case people who buy porsche will not buy ford and vice versa. Now let's say there is an upswing in the economy. Then u would expect both the sales of porsche and ford to go up as both segments feel the effect of the growth.
Look at the statistics in my first post. SE has ZERO growth whereas Nokia has 90%. You should see similar growth if SE & Nokia are selling to different market segments. A zero growth in a market that is growing 80% is a disaster.
So there is very high likelihood that there is NO segmentation. Consumers therefore perceived SE & Nokia smartphones provide the same utility value (i.e same satisfaction). SE smartphones is not selling because consumers don't find it as good value (i.e. overpriced).
As simple as that.

Sendo, Siemens, Samsung and Panasonic also have their own non-touch screen UI's yet they licensed S60.. Nokia also has Series 40 1.0, 2.0 & 3G beside S60..

But this non-touch-screen UI is brand new!
So when it gets obsolete series 60 will be too.
And it's licensed to ?Samsung?

, I'm not sure what brand is it...

rowenacruzcarlos you are right,I also dream with a P900...
But Nokia is more cheper then SE in SmartPhones.
For example,I bought a new 3660 from my Network here in Portugal for "only" 175 euros.
I can't bought a P900 for only 175 euros

,not even a stolen one is so cheap.Here a P900 costs 855 euros...
Chears!

There is only one SE smartphone and Nokia has 3 of them right now afaik. Nokia mass-smartphones are cheaper (of course less advanced and little overpriced but still...). That's why people's buying them.
Sony Ericsson is not going to have as huge marketshare as Nokia in the nearest future. They will still make the high-end phones, not for mass-market.
