i am aware of certain mac-only scientific applications, especially in chemistry, but is there really anything that a mac can do that a pc can't?
you may be interested in this series of articles from ZDNet:

The Apple Mac turns 20...but the real question is not has it grown up, but are PCs now as impervious to gecko lizards?

I agree that a PC can pretty much what a mac can but there certain tasks Apps which can only run on macs..at this moment in time i cannot remember which ones.(its like 2.30am here). But just for the fact alone that macs never crash and never catch a virus or a worm is enough to comvince me to convert..Since my pc caught the blaster worm couple of weeks ago had to call up microsoft several time to get it fixed.I've totally been put off by windows..its one of series of probs i've had with my pc...
By the way what time is it in oz??

that's fair enough i suppose. i have *touch wood* so far avoided any serious issues with viruses on my personal PC (not so much on the work one, but that was the IT dept's fault) because i try to keep my security as up to date as possible. it probably helps that i mostly only use it at weekends, so when a virus or patch notification comes out mid-week i update before i do anything else. i know that's not bullet-proof, but i've been lucky so far.
oh, it's about 11:40 am here.

i'd be a little skeptical of apple telling you to buy apple (as i wuold with MS saying "buy MS"). i'm not denying the truth of it, just be wary of rose coloured glasses.
