I'm experiencing a lag as well using T-Mobile in CA. Mine freezes for about 7 seconds when it switches GPRS status from "available to use" to "present" (filled in GPRS indicator or not) and back again. Look at your GPRS indicator when it "lags" and please let me know if this is happening with you as well.
