@Boba, South Korea is the main cdma player besides the US. The big networks providers are SK and KT. China has a cdma network but with a modification, smartcard called UIM was also introduced to the cdma handsets. It has the same size as SIM/U-SIM. This operator runs both GSM and cdma networks, which way only a Hong Kong operator and Austalia Telstra ever did as I know. Other areas with cdma cellular networks I know are India and some east Europe countries, probably there is one on 450M in Russia. This message was posted from a P800

In Australia, both Telstra and Yes Optus are running a GSM and CDMA network....Better coverage in rural places and high speed data are some positive things about CDMA, a negative thing is the price you have to pay for it... This message was posted from a WAP device

@ prom

As my one of my replies states, I'm far from an expert, this much I know, just in case I passed for a know-it-all hehe

However, I'm not new in Canada, I was born and raised in Montreal, but moved to Switzerland for 3 years. Thats when I became interested in cell phones cuz before I left, I couldnt have cared less about a cell phone...I had my pager and thats all I wanted lol

I did work for Bell Mobility for a year, but as I also mentioned, anything that has to do with CDMA & TDMA is not on my A-list, I just paid enough attention to be able to do my job right lol Let's just say most people don't ask about the complicated stuff...

Anyhow, I just realized I'm not the only Canadian on esato.com.....nice...

P.S. I am hoping that Fido gets out of that jam, I was so scared of becoming a TELUS customer lol

P.P.S. I used to love that very first Clearnet phone, the Sony one hehe

@bobafett

well, in the dessert the only thing available is SAT Phone, but GSM coverage is also nice when your on the road (on the east coast) and yes the service is more expensive

here some info from the Telstra website (your are one wap so here it is)

Selecting the Right Network

To help you select the right network we have provided some pointers below.

Digital GSM
GSM typically supports customers who :
primarily use their mobile service within capital cities and metropolitan areas
want good in-building coverage in capital cities and metropolitan areas
need their mobile phone while travelling overseas
Outbound Roaming
GSM also allows access to GPRS using a GPRS compatible handset.

Digital CDMA
CDMA typically supports customers who :
live in capital cities or metropolitan areas but regularly travel outside these areas
want coverage in more places across Australia than any GSM network
live outside of metropolitan areas

Satellite
Satellite typically supports customers who :
want coverage almost everywhere in Australia
particularly in rural and remote areas

@bacanito

the only man from Canada, well goodmorning over there

Prom1: The USIM card is only for 3g utms afaik. they are nonetheless used in the european 3g networks... but i must admit, dont know about the japanese ones... but i think its the same case there:
usim for 3g, no-sim for none 3g.. I could be wrong, what do you think

@Boba, Think as 2G systems, both GSM and cdma can provide good service. IMO, the most important is the quality of network equipment and the operation. This message was posted from a P800
