Funny how serious people are taking this. lol. Just backup the phone every week and do a restore. Chill people. Also the virus is for the s60 platform not UIQ

If they will make viruses, now we'll have to pay antivirus, instead of buing games or video / audio players, and so on

but the thing is, we don't have to pay for antivirus, because we're aren't complete idiots and we aren't going to install unknown files. are we?

if this "worm" exploited some vulnerability in symbian or UIQ (like Slammer does windows, for example) i'd be worried. but it doesn't, it just exploits silly people that don't know better. we know better.

@MixiN

Too true. I prefer the "firewall" type concept for blocking out intruders. Can't see me? Can't infect me.

Hey guyz, the OS itself is in the ROM of the phone right? so I dont think any serious damage could come to the phone, but just to be cautious least the data in the phone (contacts, files, sms) might be stolen better not open blutooth'd files unless it is something you asked for. and as some1 said, a regular bckup and restore should keep us safe. i guess using an encryption s/w like powerprotect too is a gud idea. the Px00 is miles away from being as vulnerable as Windogs is...

Surely if there was a weakness in your phone security, it would be up to the phone company to fix it.
Firmware updates could be used.

if there was a flaw in the firmware - for instance, a way for virus writers to get their SIS file auto-installed as soon as it's recieved - then yep there'd be a good case for a firmware upgrade. but there is no security issue here - the user is in full control, and has to both accept the file and choose to install it (ignoring at least one security warning) before anything bad can happen. if it does, it's user error.

just to show how good of a negotiator and diplomat i am i will try to make peace between the two sides of the battle on this thread. first argument is that, for a long time now on there will be no worse virus/threat for my p800 than a silly blond. and that it serious threat, because it comes uninvited and doesnt request for permission. looolz.

the second, and the serious part (i was serious in the first too, hehe), is that the big thing about "virus on uiq" is that, after a long time of saying there are no viruses on this os, here comes a time for the ones who said there will be, to jubilate. i also said this long time ago, along with my palm's first infection, and after "format" i couldnt be jubilating.
yes guys, its damn possible and damn close. yes, you need to have bluetooth on and stuff to get infected bla bla, but stop debating on this virus that had generated the fuss (it.s completely harmless and totally controlable/containable). others are waiting to be born. the people who know the uiq software flaws are welcome to patch... or infect?

ps. px00 are powerfull and complex machines. they run hundres of software titles. viruses can be easely run too. backup frequently and keep informed on this and u.ll be safe.

whish you all never to have problems such
