The brighter one is the one with the older firmware that eats batteries, the darker one is with the newer firmware which doesn't put the screen light on so bright to save on battery power.

Wrong in my opinion. I've had three of these from O2 now. R1A harware had pinkish and white (greenish) lights. The pinker one had much better screen colours and was brighter - firmware on both is R2A. The other hardware was R2C (again R2A firmware) and had the whiter (again I think greener) lights and again was dimmer, colours not as saturated. Battery on all is rubbish.

Interesting thing is the later harware version had sticky 1,2 AND 3 keys. I kept the earlier hardware with the pinker lights needless to say. Later doesn't always mean better.

I don't like the purple too. White is much stylisher!

I hate the pink keypad light too, it totally throws the aesthetics off (see past rant here).
On the other hand, in full room light, the keypad has a tinge of blue. Very neat.

Still want to change that damn LED though.

My boyfriend bought K700i yesterday.
Guess what.. his has more purple keypad light than mine. It affects the display, I guess..

His K700i display is a bit more contrast, but a bit less bright. Mine is more pale, but brighter. His K700i has more perfect white color (it's really white! Really!), mine has a little yellowish white color. But, my K700i has more perfect black color, his K700i has a tiny purple shade in its black color.

However, yellow, green, orange, brown, black, and grey are shown better in my K700i while maroon, blue, purple, pink, white are shown better in his.

Weird...
