Ok am confused myself now! So what really does this function do besides showing you the gprs signal bar all the time? Are there any other benefits? Possibly the mms one but i cant confirm that as mms doesn't work here. Anyone know? Ed

I'll try to summarize:
1. The settings GSM & GPRS is negligble on standby time (does not do much except periodic routing area updates).
2. The phone DOES listen for paging when WAP is active unless the Connect/Data comm/data Accounts//Edit/"Allow calls" is set to GPRS Only
3. If you are not attached to GPRS at power on (black triangle), your network provider has a GPRS Network operating in NOM 3. This is most likely a configuration fault since nobody wants to operate in that mode... A SE phone is in any case a Class C mobile in such a network (since there is no paging coordination between GSM/GPRS).
This means that the phone can only be GSM Attached OR GPRS Attached - Not both at the same time). Hence the triangle only shows up when a PDP context is activated. It also means that you are IMSI detached whne the context is activated. Totally according to the spec - this is why nobody wants to operate a network in that mode (NOM III).
4. The benefit of being GSM & GPRS attached are more obvious when the network is operating in NOM 1 and a Gs interface is present since GSM paging can be sent on GPRS Signalling channels/Data channels

When I have GPRS & GSM on this automatically appears whenever I switch the phone on - I assumed it meant that I was receiving a GPRS signal. In GSM only the blue triangle only comes on when GPRS is activated. When I had my T68m I always had it on GSM only as I new that when the blue triangle was showing I was connected. On my T68i there is also a connection icon on the right hand side of the screen when GPRS is activated so now I have the GPRS and GSM settings on as with this connection icon I know when I'm connected.
I can recive calls when connected to GPRS.
Hmm am still confused - which setting is better then or does it not matter??

Forgot to mention that the GPRS icon's differs depending on the theme you have loaded....
With the default theme the icon is a filled Green/Blue when GPRS Attached.
If there is GPRS in the network but you are not allowed to attach and rejected with an erroneous reject cause the triangle is "empty"
If properly rejected by the network (no subscription/no roaming agreement for GPRS etc) the triange is invisible (as it is when in GSM Only mode).

Yeah the triangle is full and I have full access to the GPRS network.
Still though I still don't understand is the GPRS and GSM setting better? I'm assuming it must be.
