Indeed. Some people (myself included) WANT and PREFER seperate devices.

seperate devices doesn't seem like a necessity to me. If you are really into tiny phones you can have one pda/phone and one mini phone and just move the sim. Night on the town is fine. Same amount of devices owned, but most days you only have to carry one device.

No I don't think it's time to say good bye to pda's.I prefer separate devices - phone and pda. Maybe I am just accustomed to it but it seems to me better option than to have one smart o communicator.

I believe that if Symbian does not get its act together, the Smartphone battle will be won by the PDA manufacturers, not the mobile phone manufacturers.

I love my PDA (XDA II) and i love my SE p900 (although my duff battery is making me
!! ) However i have to agree that if you are going out to a busy pub/club on Fri/Sat night the last thing i would take with me is my PDA as it would (a) be too bulky to carry around (b) get nicked!! I prefer to have the option of just using my phone in these situations.
However once techology has overcome the issue of cramming lots of technology into a smaller device that acts as a PDA and phone then i would just have the one device, no problem. Maybe we will all be using video smartphone wrist watches within 10 years!!!
Or even a tricorder type devices as illustrated in Star Trek!!!

Well not much to add since Masseur already voiced my opinion in his own..
although "swiss army gadgets" can come in handy, they canīt hold a candle to separate components.
PLUS the added bonus of being able to leave PDA @home when not needed.

I would still hold to the view that, in the long term, we will end up using single, integrated devices. I agree with the sentiment of present day smartphones not being as good as a dedicated device, with respect to an individual feature, but the nature of mobile phones is such that this will almost certainly change.
If we use the digital camera as an example we can see how mobile phones with integrated cameras are now starting to creep nearer and nearer dedicated digital camera in terms of quality. In the long term I would have thought that dedicated digital camera would become obsolete as high quality cameras, inbedded in mobile phones, become so powerful that a seperate digital camera would be looked upon as either being quaint or the realm of the professional photographer.
As technology improves smartphones will be able to compete with dedicated devices, until there eventually comes a point when cutomers no longer feel the need to buy a dedicated device offerring them a single feature, when they could have a mobile 'phone', which offers them the same quality plus lots of features they may want too.

It's interesting to see that some members prefer to use a combination of both but some prefer to use just the so call 'smartphone' with pda capabilities.
Remember when motorola first introduce their phone? yeah, it looked like u r carrying a 'james bond bag' or if like a 'tupperware'. Look at the size of the phone today. It's amazing isn't it!
I believe one day, pdas will get smaller while phones will have more or even larger memory than the pdas. I also believe that pdas will still be around for quite sometime yet while the phone will do the catching up in term of design, functions, memory and capabilities.
Certainly, the challenge ahaed for pda manufacturers is to continue creating powerful pdas with features that cannot be squeezed into hybrid devices. We'll wait and see how soon the phone manufacturers can catch up with them.
