The clamshell looks very clean, it’s a great design especially the way the contrasting parts of the exterior line up when it’s closed. Is the “5” key meant to be some sort of joystick that is also the “5” key when you press it down? It seems like might be a bit difficult to use -- for instance -- if you’re dialing and want to enter a “5” but accidentally push the joystick to the left, you’d have to push it back to the right and then enter the “5”…seems like it could be a paid doing all that work with one button. It would probably be easier to have a separate joystick that you could push down to select the item currently selected. Or maybe the jog-dial from the Pxx0’s. Also, I have to agree with other people’s concerns about the round keypad on the other phone. It is a clever design but you really need to have four rows of three buttons. The Nokia keypad really turned off a lot of people and hurt their sales, and the successors to that phone all have conventional keypads now. Most people use their phonebook anyway but it’s a pain when you do need to dial and have to look for the button you want, and especially when making an SMS! Other than that I think they look good and I wish I could make drawings like that! The other clamshell design from Oh-li looks cool – but is the viewfinder on the same side as the camera?
I think SE should have a vote where they take 3 phone concepts and have people vote on which one they would like to see. They could take a specification set – for instance the specs of the K700 – and have some artists work up a few design concepts and have a website with 3D views of the different designs and then people could vote on which design they want for the upcoming phone.
