To check what numbers your phone will come up with go to Phonebook--->Special Numbers--->SOS Numbers, this is the way to get there for T610 and it will be similar for other phones i believe.

even stranger is that 999 bypasses the keylock on my missus' k700i, but not on yours...

however, if you do ring 999 from your pocket, they ring you back and let you know... they're not usually too happy, but are fully aware that all mobile phones bypass keylocks for emergency, and that its not your fault.. (in the UK they do anyway)..
