Thanks for the advise - seems strange that a new phone has such an old firmware installed - for some reason I cannot seem to use a file manager - my phone is not recognised - so I have tried using the USB-Handset manager, but the .dm files are not recognised...anyway as you say without the firmware update I cannot do it anyway - is the firmware only updateable through 'shops' or can I download it somwhere?

Thanks

Pete

after reading all this...i have decided to burn my phone & all my clothes & run naked thru my local library in protest at vodafones unwillingness to put such old firmware in their phones!
the local police however were not so amused!
i should be let out in time for xmas...thanks!

Hey im sorry to bring this thread back again

But i need to know something, i have done all the steps and i have the correct firmware and i use a bluetooth USB-dongle and none of this is a problem.

The problem is that when i create "DRM content" in DRM Packager i get two files in my DRM folder.

songname.copy
songname.dd

And i dont get this, i get two files? Which should i send? And why is it named copy? songname.copy is the one that is the same size as the original mp3-file!? Might be a stupid question ;D

Best Regards from Daniel

@DiZi

Open the application "Sony Ericsson Digital Rights Management Packager". Choose the menu "Option" and then the menu item "Configuration...". In the new window that appears, choose "Forward-lock" as DRM method (in the first pull down menu). Click "Ok" and try again. You should now get a converted file ending with the extension .drm. Send this file to your phone. If your software is R2V001 (or later) everything will work fine.

Good luck!

Cybervisitor, let me correct you and say that the extension is .dm and add that if the DRM file you copy to the main audio folder has a filename of just one word, (eg. Traffic.dm) the phone will not recognise it and will prompt you to delete it. But, if it is one word ending with a number (eg. Traffic1.dm) or more than one words (eg. DJ Tiesto - Traffic.dm) then everything is works finek!

@sevastos

1. Yes, the file extension is .dm and not .drm.

2. The file name can be a single word and doesn't need a number in it. You are wrong! I have tested it, and it works just great. The file need to be transfered to the root directory so the phone re-directs it to the correct corresponding folder. If you drag it to the sounds folder (for example), then the file is not recognized though. There must be something wrong with your computers software that performs the transfer, or something else!

well I have no idea really.

What is the file extension of the ringtones you upload to your phone?
How did you upload them to your phone?
Which phone do you have?
If one with memorystick, are the ringtones stored on memorystick or on phone memory?
What is the error message you get when a ringtone can not be set? (literal text please)

and one comment re: necessity of R2V firmware: this is only for K700i folks

Ok... i have a v800 and i tought that it didnīt mather if a posted it here in the 700 thred. Didnīt find a v800!

But to the prob... some mp3īs work when i have run them in the DRM Packager, and sent them to the phone. (i use usb, and they will be stored on the memory stick) But some doesnīt work. When i try to select them as a ringtone the v800 says "Cannot use this file Delete file?" The weird thing is... that some will work and some doesnīt? Isnīt that weird?
