Back when I worked @ orange I was involved in 3G trials. The LG handset is utter rubbish and that's without mentioning the plastics used to make it - cheap and of a very poor quality.

The Z1010 is ok, but as already mentioned - it's getting on a bit. I had a play with the V800 today, and in comparison the Z1010 is 'fat', heavy, has poorer screens/features and looks less desirable. Orange will struggle with their 3G as to be quite honest, it's pants.

I'm looking forward to 3g as the best thing is Voda & Orange handsets will be more expensive than '3'.

Why is that good you ask? Well they both have data cards so you access the internet, and browse wap at 3g speeds.

'3' give you cheap handsets but lock wap (yes no esato) so you you only buy stuff from them, so they re-coup their cheap handset subsidies. That why they offer cheap talktime deals aswell, it's the only way they can attract customers at the moment.

Why have a 3g net if you can't use it????

Well, this is from the same guy at CPW that gave me info on the new SE phones.

O2 cannot open their own 3G services since they have made a deal with three. (Those on Three will notice that their 2g signal is always on O2)

BUT O2 has found a way to open a 3G service.
T-Mobile and O2 are going to be joining together where T-Mobile will be setting it up and O2 will be funding the project majorly.
So T-Mobile and O2 will release the 3G service as one.

Three uses the O2 network where 3g is not available. But you wouldn't know you were on O2 as it still says 3 on the screen

@amnesia

Mate, I know you pass this stuff on in good faith (re our earlier conversations on the subject) but I can promise you this is pure unadulterated bollocks!

"3" use O2 for voice, as they did not have a 2G network to launch. They do, however, fully intend to launch 3G and to disprove my lying colleague (I should probably tell this guy to stop spreading unfounded crap to the public!) they already have 3G up and running, in the form of data only services via the 3G/GPRS datacard. More to the point, O2 and T-Mobile both paid billions of pounds for their licenses, so from a common-sense point of view, they are hardly likely to merge for this project, especially given that this is viewed as the future of the industry and they would effectively be merging the entire companies.

I have no idea why this guy is telling you such utter rubbish, but I'm now even more convinced that all that 4MP-cameraphone-within-a-year malarkey was rubbish as well!

Oh well...

@amnesia

Without wishing to repeat what dave_uk said, I am inclinded to agree with him; the idea of O2 and T-Mobile operating a joint 3G mobile service is highly doubtful. As dave_uk said, such a venture would be more akin to a merger, which also seems unlikely.

The other factor to take into account is that both O2 and T-mobile paid for seperate 3G licenses; recouping the cost of one liscense for a single company is a mammoth task, recouping the cost of two liscenses for a single company would be a very serious hinderance indeed.
