I honestly didnt think it could, I was chatting to a mate of mine on Mirc and I was swearing blind that it couldnt, so utterly convinced was i. You guys have proved me wrong though, and I thank you. I shall now go and hide in a corner somewhere and contemplate my ignorance!

Apparently, legally you have to tell the other party that the call is being recorded.

Actually, you have a shortcut key to record the sound during the call. Just select form the shortcut menu one direction of the joystick to record sound (from entertainment), then use that joystick direction during a call).
It will behave odd - it won't save the file as the name of the recorded contact, but as recording(x). And during the call it will prompt you to play what you recorded after you ended the recording.
Looks more like a bug. I don't think the other party receives the beep.
