I don't think that way. Its one way of saying "we have arrived!" It indicates the fact that the company can afford to hire expensive celebrities and thereby announces its strong position in the market. I mean, you can take it in both ways!

It's perfectly fine to prefer Ericsson over Sony, but I just don't see why SE should have a European 'brand ambassodor' to reflect their links with Ericsson. If they did want a 'brand ambassador' then the choice should be made on ability to do the job, not where the person comes from.

In Indonesia many young artists use SE (most are P900 or P910i); Panasonic has a local ambassador: Dian Sastrowardoyo for all kind of Panasonic's products;
For SE's ambassador; here are some of celebrities come into my mind:
