You have to remember that operators are constantly improving network coverage, so if your latest handset seems to have much better performance compared to previous phones, then it MIGHT not always be about the phone...

I have to agree with gelfen. With my z600 I get very clear reception even when there is only one bar shown. I can use this phone in any part of my house unlike all of the other phones we have had here.

Thank you for sharing your opinions. It may seem like a little provocation, but I have to praise my T68i too.
As you know, some people complain about bad reception of T68i. I don't agree. I love my T68i because even in reception level 1-2 the speech is usually very clear and mild. I have been able to talk even when the reception level briefly dropped to 0 (then the speech was hacked, of course).
I have had T68i since 31 May 2002. During this period I have never
experienced any dropped call due to the bad coverage. Only last year when I was in Rome and moved into the subway the call ended - but because I moved out of coverage (there was no undergound coverage).
Once I used my T68i in old stone castle. I looked at display - the reception signal strength balanced from 0 to 1 bar. But then I was called. The speech was fragmentary, I heard the calling person very badly, but she heard me quite well. So, despite signal strength of 0 bar, we were able to communicate.
I guess that people experience bad reception especially in GSM 1800 and GSM 1900 inside massive buildings. Those frequencies have smaller
(narrower) coverage and not so good penetration (especially in buildings). Here in Estonia (Europe) the main GSM-frequency is 900 MHz. By the way: 3G/UMTS/WCDMA mobile system has the worst coverage and penetration as it works at 2000-2100 MHz.

@eascoaststar...i've owned,and still own a few phones...but i cannot be ars**d amending my profile..do people actually observe profiles?as i say...the displayed signal is utterly irrelevant.the s/n ratio is the answer,and according to my personal use...its no 1;t39,no 2;most nokias,no 3;k7/s7...and the worst hold imo t68i and p900.

First of all, I do admit that everyone has the right to his/her opinion. So I don't judge anyone, not at all! It's interesting to read what people think and what they have experienced.
But in my opinion it's quite usual: if new a excellent mobile phone has just been released to the market, people mostly admire it. When time goes by, they start to find more and more mistakes. Until a new mobile hit comes out an it's starts over again.
I assume that lots of you have read complaints about a bad reception of T68i. As a fan of this mobile phone I have searched from several mobile forums about T68i. I have found positive as well as negative opinions. I would like to balance this opinion scale and mediate some positive and even neutral experiences about T68i and its reception ability. I hope the few remained T68i fans are pleased to read this opinions.
Of course you can find more reviews, here are only some of them. They are longer, but I quoted mainly the opinions about reception. (PS. If one day I buy a new excellent mobile phone, I'll keep remembering my T68i as a great trustful phone.)

The design [of T68i] is good, the functions are outstanding and the phone is lightweight. I have not encountered one single problem with it and the signal is excellent. The battery is durable and the keypad is very impressive. People say this phone is slow, however, mine fails to show this and is quite rapid. This is a very good phone and is quite cheap.

I heard (and read) that T68i had poor reception, that the software often crashes and that it basically was a bad choice to buy. (While writing this, I wonder why on earth I even considered buying it!) BUT I must say, in my case, none of the above applied to my sweet little t68i... I was worried more than anything about the reception, since I live [in Belgium] very close to the border with the Netherlands, and have struggled for many cellphones with a tiny signal. But guess what, reception-wise, everything worked out great! no signal-loss whatsoever, no interrupted calls and so on. I also can't say I've had any problems with the software... Everything works great, without the slightest flaw (nothing freezing up, no unexpected resets).

This phone is great for me. Other people have commented that the main problems are RF reception and slow menu. I have experimented none of these. For RF issues, this phone is slightly better than my previous (and old fashioned) Ericsson. I have never tried a Nokia phone, so I cannot say the T68i RF reception is the best. But for me at the moment it is OK.

I think T68i is an excellent phone, being on the Vodafone IRL network and living in a remote part of Ireland I have never had any reception issues (it way out performs my previous - Nokia6210 - Phone).

I have used nokias ( 3300,3500,8000 series) Motorolas v60i, Siemens 4X and nothing compares to the T68i. The menu is a bit slow but as far as reception and battery life you cant beat it. I've had the phone 7 months now and have had no problems what so ever.

The biggest complaint that I have read about this phone is the RF performance. I have dragged this phone [T68i] around the US and Europe and can say that the RF performance is better or no worse than any other phone I have used. Most (if not all) RF performance issues are carrier caused and have nothing to do with the phone (now I know there will be a dozen people who will argue with this). The
other complaint I read was the slow menus - I have not seen this. Slow is a relative term.

Working as a sales consultant for Cingular wireless, I get to use all of the new phones before anyone else, so I can honestly tell you this phone destroys the competition. Signal strength is comparable to all other models.

I think that the T68i is a great phone. I have had perfect reception, except in red, brick buildings, which is common for many phones.

Reception is very good (at least here in Portugal) and the sound is excellent (the very best of all the mobile phones I had to this day). Have drop to the ground it a few times and it still works fine. It's fairly robust .. It's the first non Nokia phone I bought ... I am not sorry!

I was initially looking for a replacement for my ATT 3660, and finally I decided to go for the T68is. Its basically the same model, just made by ATT. Reception is great here Texas, as long as your outside though, and in a 1 story building, or on the top floors of a high rise. The GSM networks have those problems. Its not the phone but the network. Overall I LOVE THIS PHONE.
