of course, the profile stats aren't entirely accurate since posts in certain forum areas don't count (e.g. regional, garbage, mpfz, other manufacturers).

@all

Why are some people so concerned with their post count? It really means very little, except to serve as an indicator of how active a member is; even in this respect it is not at all accurate. A member could make a hundred posts a day in the Rubbish Forum and still have a low post count.

I have always been in favour of scrapping the post count altogether, but that doesn't seem to be a very popular idea.

i don't think it should necessarily scrapped altogether, but i think it wouldn't hurt if it topped out sooner. i think it would be interesting to see an "unedited" post count in the profiles, showing every post across all forums or even a break up by forum, just to see where people usually spend their time.

for instance, i used to post a lot in the more technical areas of the forum but lately i've been spending a lot of my time in areas that "don't count" from an official viewpoint.

@gelfen

I suppose that it might be interesting to find out what one's total post count was. My post count is over three thousand at the moment, I imagine that if one were to include Rubbish posts, etc it would be nearer five thousand.
