both would be great but custom SMS alert would be more practical, picture display is only sort of added cosmetics IMO.

Sms alerts are more important than pics. You can't hear your friend's picture from the other room.

Yes it makes you change the SMS tones, but does it help you attach a different SMS tone for each contact in your phonebook? That's what we are talking about here isn't it?

Pictures use up much more memory than a simple ringtone so for phones of limited storage tones would be more practical. Plus, who would have a pic of everyone in their phonebook? No room in my phone for that!

@twerg, It's not always true that pics occupy more memory than ring tones. It depends on the size and format of the pic or ringtone. A small pic at a well compressed jpg format could be just as small or smaller than a typical midi tone. mp3 tones would occupy more.

I want both.
I usually use truetone for SMS alert on my P900 (MP3 just for voice ringtone), but miss the picture display.
For my K508i, I love the picture display but damn I hate SE for non-customized SMS alert for SE's non Pxxx series but still I love SE anyway.
So I want both, but if I have to pick only one, I choose customize SMS alert for all SE phones.
