No, it has to work!
Put in your Sim card
Start the phone and when you have to enter the pin, then do the following things
Jogdial Up
*
Jogdial Down
Jogdial Down

Jogdial Down

My system crashed a few weeks ago too. It froze, when the Sony Ericsson logo came.

Yea man, Id keep trying before send it to SE service to get more experience but if you just want it working now go to SE.
To get service menu on phone would be my first option.

freeze as no back light on too?? i had this problem with my P900.... and it cause by my SIM card. currently i am having a 256kb sim card which is not very stable on smart phone. but this problem won't happen often so i just ignore it.
below are the steaps i take to make my P900 function again...
1. switch off and remove the SIM out.
2. insert another SIM which is 64kb or 32kb
3. power on and it work again.
4. reinsert the old SIM back again and power on...
i could solve this by using the above method... hopes this helps
anyway... i will never install SMAN on my P series... coz SMAN always give me kernel problem when i run Opera browser and SMAN on my phone.
note: i run heavy net browsing on my opera and need extremely more RAM on my P series

Mmmm we would need more Sman+Opera users that get kernel problem. Me, Ive no problem and feel Sman is a must have app. Anyway, in your case... IŽd try Netexplorer or wait for mobile version of Mozilla

ether42,
maybe u should get the third SIM card from someone else. i am so sure that it work for my P900. Card that give me problem is GSM 900 and i change it to GSM 1800. and please remove your memory stick before u boot the phone up.
oCo,
yeah.... heavy opera will kill ya RAM faster than u can imagine.... no doubt opera still the best browser for my P900 now. i tried to do online transaction using Opera too. SMan Drain my RAM faster in certain way which resulted my opera problem. i tried to minimize my startup application max and always reboot my P900 after heavy opera usage
