Lost property should be brought to the police... keeping lost property is a crime in many countries... so why not leave it to the police? if the rightful owner doesn't claim it for a period of time the founder can claim the ownership, then you can have it whitelisted fully legal by a network provider.

if a phone is to claimed and becomes legally yours can you call up the provider and get it to become whitelisted because at that time you rightfully own it! This message was posted from a WAP device

At what point is the phone legally yours??? it has been blacklisted, so obviously the OWNER cant find it to claim it cos ur dad has turned it off so they have reported it missing,
what would be the point of networks barring phones only for the person who stole/found it to phone up and got it unlocked it would never happen.
In the UK they bar ur phone using the IMEI number and if you unbarred the phone ur self you would go to jail(probly)

The proper thing to do would be to turn it in to the local police. and wait to see if the owner comes to claim it within the timeframe given under the law. Otherwise it is stealing and not worth getting sent up for possesion of stolen property.

I wouldn’t call it stealing as the phone wasn’t stolen off somebody. But it’s very dishonest not to try and hand it back, I personally (and have done twice) would go through the phone contacts and try and phone a number like mum, dad, home…etc
Who knows they may even buy you pint for being so honest (which one chap did ), if not you yourself can fell good about yourself for your good deed!

BTW here in the UK it’s illegal to un-blacklist phones (can lead to a prison term).

Ok fair enough your father shouldn’t have to go out of his way to return the phone to its owner but it’s the good fellows who do that get mine and others respect.

And it is very petty making a post about my father gets free phones blah, blah blah. What next my dad’s bigger than your dad!

No, you're not! To do it is one (dishonest) thing, although many people would do the same. To brag about it on a forum shows a worrying lack of self-awareness. What did aff expect? A round of applause?

Having said that, if his Dad's morals are anything to go by, is it any wonder...?!
