Its the 3g data speeds that heats up the phone, coz its so fast...
I once had an extra long video call couple weeks ago and had the phone on my bed without touching it and when i ended the call and picked up the phone it was boiling HOTTT...try it.
the moto e1000 reaches very high temperatures..the highest of 3g phones, had a mail bout this from our SP... think i deleted it.

Although these 3g phones seem to heat quite a lot and manufacturers seem to think is normal....i dont believe it doesnt affect the CPU operations. I mean think about it. Your CPU performs better when its properly cooled. Im looking for a zalman cpu cooler for my phone

I've heard before tat 3G phones in general tend to get hotter than 2G phones. This could be it.
Mine gets
very hot when i use it as UMTS modem for my PC. Not when browsing the phone itself though, but that's probably because I don't do it for long periods of time, as opposed to having it as a modem........
