If they had made the screen 265K fulltime then people would be on here suggesting starting a petition because SE have ripped us off with a really short battery life. I personally think it was a good idea. If it wasnt for Sman reporting that it uses 65k normally people probably wouldnt have been any the wiser.
I am more than happy the screen.

I can't believe we have this topic yet again after all this time!
anyway, SE were not hiding this in any way. As I have posted several times before, the white paper clearly says
The Pictures applications uses 262 thousand colours in its full screen mode. In all other cases 65 thousand colours are used. Images having more colours than used by the application will be adjusted to display optimally withing the capabilities of the P910i screen
I guess not many people read the white paper, although they do get posted here on Esato, but it is the place to find a good level of detail of the design of the phone. In sales literature of course they are going to summarise it only and yes, the screen physically does support the 262k colour depth but its the software that simply doesn't take full advtantage of it

Listen to this guy, he knows what he is talking about.
The problem is the UIQ itself. Symbian did not support 262k colours AFAIK when the P910i was released. It was the same with S60 which Nokia uses.
Only in recent months have Symbian updated their software to support 262k colour screens, and now we have phones like the 6680 with 262k screens instead of 65k.
Im sure by the time the next P series phone is released or announce and IF it uses a UIQ interface it should be able to use the full capabilities of a 262k screen to the maximum, if not more if a higher colour depth screen is used.

As has been said, despite the colour ratings of each screen, the P910i does display better than the p900 in all situations.
Compare them side by side.
im not rich enough to buy TWO top of the range phone just to see what one looks better in the sun

It is a great screen and u can see it when ppl r amazed by the perfect quality of tue displayed images.The solution itself is very good to allow 262k only when needed.Talking about innovations.

@p910iguy:

(neither was i, I borrowed a friends hehehe)
@massuer: I suspect we'll need about another 20 of these threads to really clarify the issue.
@petitions: ROFL.. try watching grass grow for something just as productive.
In text it sounds like a bit of a have, but look at the picture above or take a p900 somewhere to compare it against a P910i, the differences are more than visible.
