Quote:Thank you for contacting the Sony Ericsson Call Centre.
With regards to your enquiry, unfortunately we still have not been able to replicate this issue. We have tried non-customised Sony Ericsson K700i handsets running R2AT003 and R2L001 and neither had this problem.
There will be a maintenance release of software in the next few weeks which can be applied at a Sony Ericsson approved service centre under the Sony Ericsson warranty.
Should you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us again for further help and support.
I tried my best! Maybe they are doing it wrong. I even gave them the link to this thread and still they could not replicate the problem.

I'd say they're definitely doing it wrong (or denying the problem exists)! Anyhow, going slightly OT, perhaps this new "official" release will appear on the SEUS.

I think I know why they can't replicate it...It maybe cause they are playing a fool's role, hehe, I don't think it's usual for someone to come out in public and confess their software has "issues". SE kinda reminds of M$ here...

hi,
i tried flashing my firmware to the latest one in india - R2AT003 but the customisation is still at R2AE003. aparantly they SE service centre said that as my phone was bought from the grey market they cant update the customisation locally since they dont have the required files.
do u think i can update myself by visitng the SE k700i update website. will it update the phone with the correct files?

hi guys,
im from the philippines, and i just bought my k700i yesterday.
i checkd my firmware and i think i have the latest version:
R2CA001
CXC 125 813 R3D
anyway, chancing upon the "multi-chars search" problem, i tested it and it failed on my phone. the screen turned white and flashed. so instinctively, i pressed the power button and it turned on fine. that's my account of the problem. as for the other recurring problems i havent tested them yet since i just got the fone and extremely pleased with it.
FYI:
my phone is MADE IN CHINA, but im confused cuz when i checked the available languages, they were european but since my region is asia-pacific i should have chinese/filipino as the choice of languages at least. Plus, the manual that came with my unit was in a european language.
for me, the problem isnt a big deal. the phonebook is still usable.

let me know if you want me to test something. =)

I can't begin to express my feelings knowing that such a hideous bug exists a year after it's been reported in these forums and sent to SE tech support...Anyway, I'm off from the dreadful k700 onto a k750 nowadays, which at least behaves as it should performing a multi-character phonebook search not to mention the civilized BT connectivity to my HBH-608 headset...
FYI i take back what I wrote above about the K750 behaving properly in a multi-character search situation. Apparently what SE has done this time around is actually disguise the problem and worked around it, since one can no longer press the joystick down while in search mode to progress to the next letter of the name. Them chicky bastards, think they're so so clever...I feel so let down...
