ESATO NEWS

KDDI and Okinawa Cellular are pleased to announce the launch of the new G'zOne TYPE-R CDMA 1X line-up, an outstandingly water- and impact-resistant series built to bear not only the hard use of daily life, but the rain, rugged outdoor use, and sports use as well. Manufactured by Casio Computer Co., Ltd, the new series also features a 1.28-megapixel camera, and will roll out nationally from late July.

G'zOne TYPE-R handsets, in addition to a water-resistance rating equivalent to JIS Protection Class 7 [1], feature urethane materials to protect against impact around the LCD sub-display and elsewhere, and three types of interchangeable "customized protector" to absorb impact. Owing to the enhanced impact-resistance achieved through such carefully selected materials and structures, these are the first 3G cell-phones to deliver the toughness needed to withstand hard usage in the rain, outdoors, and during sports.

To date, au has offered "tough cell-phone" models C303CA, C311CA, C409CA, and C452CA. These have proven popular, especially among customers who enjoy outdoor pursuits. Now, they have evolved into the G'zOne TYPE-R series of stylish, fold-up handsets with latest features, including a 1.28-megapixel camera, a high-resolution QVGA LCD, EZ Chaku-Uta [2], EZ Navi Walk integrated with a digital compass, and Safe Navi, which enables users to easily check where the person they are phoning is.

A unique G'zOne TYPE-R feature is a round sub-display that can be used for various functions, including a clock-face with superior readability, a digital compass, and a stop-watch accurate to 1/100th of a second. The TYPE-R also has numerous features that are helpful in outdoor and sporting activities, such as an Extension Mode, enabling users to read their address book and stored mail even when the battery has little life left, and a mobile light capability, which is useful in the dark. G'zOne TYPE-R handsets also offer a Hot Buzzer, which can be sounded at high volume, and Friendly Design, with a non-slip, dimpled surface for ease of use. The handsets offer peace of mind not only outdoors, but in a diverse range of daily situations as well.

Even when the handset is left for approx. 30 minutes at the bottom of a 1m deep tank containing still tap-water at room temperature, water does not penetrate, and the handset continues to work as a phone.
