Not many minutes ago Sweden and Norway opened a new bridge as celebration to the disolving of the union between Sweden and Norway a hundred years ago...

Happy Birthday Norway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We down here in the banana republic we call New Zealand don't hear alot about Norway, or any of the Scandanavian region actually.
Anyone got any interesting Scandanavian news links, especially on the 100th birthday celebrations?

Here's one:

http://www2.unt.se/avd/1,1786,MC=1-AV_ID=409081,00.html

These are the first lines:
"Den fredliga upplösningen av unionen förpliktigar Norge att internationellt verka för konfliktlösning på fredlig väg, sade statsminister Kjell Magne Bondevik på tisdagen då det var exakt 100 år sedan unionen med Sverige upphörde."

This text says that it was a hundred years ago that Sweden and Norway's union was disolved. So I'm just really confused.

That's what we've been learning in school. That's what the newspapers and TV-channels has been saying for a while now...

@Bjerkebanen

Can you please post some links where it says that Norway became independant from Brittain? I have to know what is really right...
Thanks!

This is a PM that I just recieved from scotsboyuk

"You are correct in saying that Norway was part of a union with Sweden and became independent 100 years ago. The website of the Norwegian Royal Family says as much.

Norwegian kings used to rule over England, but that was almost a thousand years ago. That may be what Bjerky is thinking of.

Norway sends Britain a Christmas tree every year to thank Britain for defending and then liberating Norway from the Nazis."

I belive that clears things up a bit
