But without an internet connection then the answer still stands as NO because windows needs to search for the drivers of he doesn't use the CD for pc suite.

Well No,
Providing windows is fairly well kept upto date (SP1 at the earliest, i think) the drivers are on the local machine.

sp2 is the latest. and when I said needs a driver, I meant a specific driver not a generic. Some devices are generic (like cdrom drives, mice, keyboards,) and thumb drives can be designed to utilise generic drivers that come with winxp, but oem's want to make their hardware just a little different, so we have to load a driver from cd or win update for those devices.

The K750 will be like this, and the next service pack for winxp will no doubt include a local driver for it.

thats strange there must be something wrong i plugged my k750c to 2 PCs. one running windows xp (without SP1) and the system just installed the modem driver and what not with out using a CD or the internet and worked perfectly (showed the removable disk); while on the other PC running windows xp 64bit (sp1) it asked for drivers and when i gave it the CD it refused them (it appears it only accept 64bit drivers) so it didnt recognize the usb thumb

not surprising where x64 is concerned.. it looks like it'll probably be a little bit of a driver nightmare atm.

Going slightly off topic (well, back to the first post, anyway):

Have you had a chance to see if 10.4.2 cures the kernel panics?

Asking for a friend (who may be buying my mac )

I just bougt an USB 2.0 Memorystick pro Duo-adapter.
It's faster than using the USB-cable on the phone and acts as an UMS-device.
