Is it causing any problems? It could well be a DLL put there by a spyware programme that Windows is still looking for - the spyware may be gone but there's still a reference to one of it's files in the registry or something.

Perhaps someone could clear that up - is that DLL a proper windows file or a spyware one?

Ah, actually, just done a search on my own PC and found that file in my 'Windows/System32' folder!

I stand corrected, it is a proper windows file. Do a search on the internet, see if it is a file that can be downloaded from somewhere like Microsoft? If it is downloadable, make sure it comes from a reputable site though!

Its a windows .DLL file. Even my win98 has that file. Without this 'wininet.dll' file i cant operate my XP. Everything is blank expect my azul wallpaper.. No startup no icons no nothing :( .. Help!! This message was posted from a T610

Have you still got the taskbar? If so, click start, then run then type in sfc /scannow

This checks that all of your system files are in place and not corrupted. It'll ask you for your XP disk.
