stabilizer off and fw r1ca037

Maybe colours too warm (a bit yellow) with the N82 and too cold with K850i.

Blurry on the left with the nokia and purple fringing with K850i.

@david - When you TOOk that shot . . . what's the REAL color of the house Pink or Yellow How come either of the TWO (K850/N82) does NOT show the REAL color of the object taken . . . .

From what I can tell from your full sized images:

1.) N82 has too much noise reduction. Areas of fine details (such as grass, leaves, bushes, tiles on the roof, etc) become a blurry smear. Also, jpeg compression is noticeable here. K850i is showing more overall detail.

2.) K850i shows too much noise, especially between contrasting areas of light and dark or between different colors. Too much purple fringing.

3.) Neither phones colors appear to be true to life, but the N82's are more "pleasing" to the eyes, at least to me. The K850's is simply too cold and feels somewhat lifeless.

I'd guess to say that the biggest reason the N95/82's shots are rated higher is simply because of the colors, which is the first thing a person perceives when comparing pictures. If the colors are off, no amount of extra sharpness or clearness will make the picture more pleasing to the eyes.

I don't think n82 is that good. I must admit I'm a bit disappointed. Sometimes my old k790i take better pictures, honestly

Is there any way to mod the cam drivers, so that it doesn't compress the pictures that much?

I finally had time to take some photos around the house using both phones. The angles might be slightly different between the phones, but they’re all focused in the same area and held at the same distance. Make of them as you will. I used all the default settings on both phones. The only thing I changed on them was the image quality setting, which I switched to best/high.

From these pictures, I’ve found that the n82 compresses photos far too much. You can see jpeg artifacts in the n82 images, and they’re about half the file size of the k850’s photos.

Its possible that I have a defective k850, but I find its colours to be really off. The bricks are an orange colour, but the k850 makes them look red.

The k850 has 037 fw

You should not forget - if the pics are printed in in the 6x4 format (by far the most popular) the decrease in resolution is not noticed at all (because of the phisical compression), while the 'wrong' color will be very visible ! ! ! And, to add insult to the injury, not even the resolution is always better in the k850i. SE got this one teribly wrong and that shows in the number of devices sold Furthermore, we are only a handfull of people posting/reading this tread, the vast majority (GSMARENA) 'saw' this comparission quite differently (actually there was not much to compare 'first vs last') .I remember the day when some of you chaps use to moan about Nokia not having a 'real' flash - now that they have the most powerfull flash by far, no one want's to even compare that side of things. As much as I hate the Bastards, they are where they are because the things they did and do and the same reasoning applies to SE

as some of my might know my k850 is gone. Not that i got rid of it, but it got lost when i sent it for repair. I now own the N82.

I have a few shots from my k850 (037) saved on my computer so i tried to take the same pics with the n82 and here are the results. You be the judge.
