@c96sthl
You're right, their ASP (Average Selling Price) has dropped due to discounting mid to high end product and SE have admitted to a "wrong product mix"which they are trying to fix.
The V640i is selling for NZ$299 and I have seen it as low as NZ$249 which makes it awesome value considering we kiwis still have the Moto V3X on sale for the same price.
K770i, W910i and K850i all dropped $200 in price only 4 months after release which is unheard of in NZ where K800i and W950i were still selling at full retail 18mths after release. K770i and K800i are now the same price - NZ$399. So yes, discounting is happening.
Much as I would like a do-everything phone most manufacturers won't build one because there are too few customers for such a device.

won't ever be doomed as long as the lot of us keep buying their phones

the weirdest combination
k660 at a shop i pass by yesterday is showing same pricing as K810
if K810 already stop production....for me, I will get it even K660 look nicer.
or if someone put up a newer samsung or LG phone and with me a general mass market user. I might pick something else since K810 is old product (1yrs plus old since launching)
this is the portion which lead to its problem.
SE suffer similar situation in 2004 before K750 and W800 was out...as that time K700 and S700 is old but tht time we also can accept the fact SE is having limited portfolio...but now as they grow their portfolio...they are using something which Nokia seem to suffer a few yrs back...only this time might be worst.....there's a time when nokia is lagging on camera oriented/ music oriented and color display phone around 2003 to 2004 period (or is it earlier) which see its market share and profit drop....but nokia is huge....i can say their management might be so good tht it manage to turn the things around
what i meant was tht time nokia seem to be throwing a lot of phone with same features....with just facelift or face change....as if they as a big group of soldier pass thru a mine field without any equipment to detect mines. anyone who failed to pass...just let them sacrifies.....now they seem to be continue such method but they got enough "soldiers" to do so hehe

Welcome Vlamm, long time no see.
Are 161,304 Esato members enough to keep SE going? I hope so

@Carkitter
Unless you just can't see the truth maybe you should wonder just how many Esato members still only buy SE? as i bet it's not all of them by a long way. Look at how many had a K850 and now have a N82 or similar. Look at how many had an UIQ smartphone but now own a WM or S60 device instead.
If everyone was still happy with SE's offerings and buying their phones SE's sales and profits wouldn't of dropped. Whilst it's all well and good quoting the hard economic times we are all facing but then why are the other manufacturers not also dropping so badly then?
You know you claim all is well at SE and there doing a great job but the market place just doesn't see it that way. There are in a mess and in big trouble and if you really can't see that then I'm amazed. All is not well and rosy and until things change i can't see better times ahead for SE. The X1 is niche product at best so won't raise sales or profits to any great level. The Samsung INNOV8 will be available in September and is a smart phone and will by all accounts be free on contract so the C905 won't be another K800 is sales and market position and rescue SE either.
So just what are you basing SE is going to be all right on besides wishful thinking of course and a blind belief of SE's supremacy. Which no longer exists anywhere and has very little sign of returning either. All of this as sad as it may be is true and the reality of the situation, all you SE fans that deny the truth are just kidding yourselves and setting yourselves up for nasty shock.

We finally lighten the mood around here and look who turns up?
How about using those award winning debating skills to debate with instead of just spinning the same old line:

No matter how many times you say it, it's still not true. SE's sales and profits have dropped due to other reasons which are well documented, mostly by SE themselves who quite frankly, have impressed me with thieir honesty on the subject.

Marc, this is ridiculous. There's no way on earth you can compare Esato's members' phones to SE's sales. SE's sales dropped only a bit compared to previous quarters, so please drop that, will ya? (and no, that was not a question, even though the sentence ended with a question mark)

We just might be. By the way I don't think that
is doomed rather they won't be in the top three in terms of number of phones sold but they will get more hell if they don't listen to their customers.
They need to start making phones that people want then put them out in a timely fashion. Don't announce what you cannot put out in a reasonable time,a la Apple and the iphone.
I would not buy an iPhone for me but I like Apple's style and ability to announce their upcoming product, and put it out on the very day that they said they will and not defer and defer.
Also although Apple does not have all the features that one can get with a N95 at least they let you know what you are getting and you get it fully functional.

Doomed if they keep on following the same old path they r one. Successful if they change tact. How?
Well in my humble opinion i think that SE should drop all this Walkman and Cybershot phones being different brands, so different class of phones for both brands rubbish. They should make a phone brilliant as they used to pre 2007, and include it in both the cyber and walk ranges, without limitations. eg. No AF (whats this rubbish of not including af in walkman phones, put it back in, w810 = Success w890/w880/w580/w700 = fail). Design with substance, make the phones beautiful again SE, SE made some of the most best lookin phones and they had good features has well (w810/k810 = success w890/k850/w880/w800/any post oct 2007 mobile = fail.
No walkman playa on Cybershot. this is a bit of a misnomer. there is a walkman playa on the k and c series but its not branded walkman why bit stupid i think. just call it walman playa.

@Carkitter and Mizzle,
Firstly it wasn't me that suggested the buying habits of the Esato forum where the be all and end all that was carkitters absurd suggestion. But lets face it if even on a pro SE forum so many are now dismayed with SE's bug ridden offerings and are choosing devices from other manufacturers it can't be good for SE or can it? Sorry but if you are seriously trying to suggest that the last 2Q of SE results are just a blip and nothing to worry about your insane.
Just how many staff have SE laid of recently? and of course that is going to have no effect on productivity and innovation is it? Just where are these new handsets that are going to resurrect SE's fortunes then?
Mizzle what happened to the device that was going to make the N95 look badly specced then? or the E90 killer still now where to be seen is the answer.
I like many others can't wait to see top specced high end devices from SE once again but the longer the wait the more once faithful users SE loses. Now if the pair of you really can't see the trouble SE are in and just how many users they have lost i just give up as you are without a doubt on the Titanic saying well its only a little iceberg isn't it? it can't be that bad really can it?
