Thanks for those thoughts guys.
Firstly the SIMs are definitely not dirty and are active and used daily in other phones.

The update via Sony Ericsson website I have already tried and it made no difference, though firmware problem was my first thought.

The Simlock status.....keying <**< shows this but (and this is going to sound pretty thick!) but where do I find the < key? Obviously * is already on the keypad but I dont seem to be able to find the <

For Gods Sake!!!!
Have Sony Ericsson acknowledged and fixed the issues associated with this phone?
My 1st C905 had the Dpad stiffen up after 1 month and my second one is having the same bloody issue!
How difficult is it for SE to make a reliable Dpad?
I'm ready to bin this pos and get something more reliable, especially if SE have not provided a redesign for the bloody dpad.
I really dont have the patience to be taking my phone in for repair every coupld of weeks.

sony ericsson are not in the business of making reliable or quality phones, and never have been.

there is only one way to improve the state of sony ericsson's notorious unreliablility, and that is to not buy their phones.
