This thread's been going on for a while, it's pretty much played out, and it's just kind of funny to see you still coming back here and feeling the need to to drag it up again and point out the iPhone's 2mp camera as if nobody's mentioned it before.

If you are happy with your W705, that's great. It's just a bit hard to believe. You really come across like someone who's busy trying to prove something to yourself - and too busy to notice the rest of us have already done this all to death..

The most amusing part is that the answer few pages back is very true. You either appreciate the iPhone (whether you own it or not) or hate it (this is obviously reserved for those who don't have it, or a few people like me who had the chance to use it and didn't really like it).

Well believe it. I am one of the many who tried it and one of the possibly few who did not like it. I had to ask the store clerk how the hell to get through the interface and found it a bit dull and confusing. I like it keeping it simple but very cool and I like it when my phone might be a but chunky compared to the i-phone but it can have that extra oomph.

Apple sued over touch screen technology

Taiwanese company claims it holds key patents

Iain Thomson in San Francisco
vnunet.com, 09 Apr 2009

Apple is being sued for patent infringement by Taiwanese chip design house Elan Microelectronics over its use of touch screen controls.

The suit, filed in the US District Court in San Francisco, states that Apple’s MacBook computer, iPhone and iPod Touch all infringe the patents owned by Elan.

“We couldn’t find a common viewpoint with Apple, so we decided we had to take action,” Dennis Liu, an Elan spokesman, told the New York Times.

He added that the company had been in talks with Apple for about two years over the issue but had decided to go to court after not reaching an agreement.

This is not the first time Elan has sued over the patents it holds on touch screen technology. In 2006 is sued US firm Synaptics over infringements of one of the patents I in the Apple suit and eventually settled on a cross licensing arrangement.

“From their previous victory in the case with Synaptics, I think they should be quite confident,” said Jessica Chang, a Credit Suisse analyst based in Taipei

“Elan believes they have a unique edge with this patent, and they want to send a signal to the market” and set an example for others.”

@muffins
Rather off topic isn't it? We have a general iPhone discussion topic for that.

Concerning the iPhone's relevance to the market, I think it's really quite odd how iPhone user's are viewed as dumb people who settle for low spec shiny flashy things, when iPhone users have actually bought a smartphone then go en-masse to the App Store and download apps (which is what a smartphone is supposed to do) while Nokia sells huge numbers of S60 phones but very few S60 owners download apps or even know that their phone is 'smart'. Basically it's a myth perpetuated by a small number of self annointed 'power users' who number in their dozens and have their self-esteem based on owning the best specced phone.

Symbian/WM/BB/Palm devices were never relevant to the mass market, they were always niche orientated while the iPhone has brought 'smart' attributes to a wide audience and because it's constantly updated and upgraded by Apple it'll never go away and always be relevant.

Okay this is probably the main reason why up to this point the iPhone remains a strong seller even though relatively speaking it is not up to par with some heavy hitters.

Although I am not a fan of apple and the way they over price their items and keep you tied to them after you purchase their products I must say that the iPhone seems to have mastered the mass market and smart phone market at the same time. That is not easy.

Still not a fan but I understand

Now it's my turn to go off topic... there is no smart phone market, just a bunch of different devices which are lumped together because they use data and run apps.
