Mamma mia!!!! is it possible to stop the discussion with how many colors X10 has????????? Une fois pour toute!!!! 16536 colors doesn't mean nothing. The number of colors a screen has is determinated by color depth:
8bits? 256colors
16bits? 65536 colors
18bits? 262k
24bits? 16M
if a 14bits screen existed the correct number would have been 16384colors not 16536 as indicated.
Sony Ericsson has one of the worst website among phone constructors regarding the specs of their phones (just look how clear are the specs on Motorola website and on HTC one and you will understand what I mean). It's impossible to find a reliable information.
E.g. The weight of the X2 (155gr: http://www.sonyericsson.com/c[....]/specifications/x2?lc=en&cc=gb 115gr there: http://www.sonyericsson.com/c[....]asefinal-20090902?lc=en&cc=gb)
Sorry for being off topic

Well for once I have to agree on what sealover94 says, no radio? That's wierd!

And why do they keep on doing these anouncements, isn't it better to wait and show a final product?

Actually this is GOOD for not including a radio. Recall that even though its an FM Radio in any phone, it must be tested against by the FCC, CRTC, and other government bodies before mass production & sales can begin. It's s small thing to consider but its BIG enough that for some small reason that the radio for FM fails the entire product must go back to the engineers to eliminate the issue and begin testing for ALL radio's all over again - which COSTS manufacturer's HUGE dollars vs an accessory. Cheaper costs for us the consumer, less headaches & production costs for SE and less expenses. Lastly the device launches on time. Even if the placement of the antenna or chip needs to be change is costly as it affects not just the prototypes but the production line assembly.

Ok time for me to start gaming on my iPhone ... Eliminate Pro! Check out the videos online and you'll get an idea of what games you'll be playing on the X10 next year ... you wont' even CARE that J2ME is not supported. WHy would you - for games anyway ... do you REALLY expect to enjoy a QVGA resolution game in java/j2ME to scale well on an 800x864(inaccurate I know but its HUGE) resolution screen?! Seriously? We already have compatibility issues with same QVGA resolution of J2ME games from W810 not working on larger screens like that of K850i/W715 etc.

In the video entitled "Sumit Malhotra, Marketing Business Manager for the XPERIA™ X10"... At approximately 1:50 he states "finger print coating" when describing the screen... Does that mean the proto devices on show do not have this and the production models will? Or is it incorrect info like we see from so many manufacturer employees?

I wonder...

I can honestly say ive thoroughly enjoyed the entertaining 14 pages this thread has come through.

Heres my little rant. I dont know all that much about Android. There ive said it at the start. I dont know whether 1.6 is bad and 2.0 is good. I dont know whether the X10 only supporting 1.6 will mean it wont have features a 2.0 device would have. I have no idea whether the phone has a 262k or 16m colour screen.

Ill go on what i do know. If the OS is as slow as it appears upon release i wouldnt like the phone. Having tried a few HTC handsets running android however i liked the OS and interface. But the deal breaker for me would be functionality. Someone mentioned 1.6 does not support sending files by Bluetooth. Since i use this function daily, that would make the X10 about as useful to me as a basic SE handset. In other words id never give it a second glance.

Regarding the screen. I dont really care whether the screen is 262k or 16m. What i do know is this. The human eye may not be able to see all 16m colour variations that screen could in theory produce. But, when displaying pictures that use colour depths not supported by the phone you would get terrible colour blending pixels where the device tries to find the nearest colour match. Ive seen it before on older phones but less frequently on newer phones. One thing is certain however. If this X10 does use a 262k screen then sure this may be acceptable. But for a phone to be released in 2010 with such a high spec sheet i would expect a 16m colour screen minimum. I actually have a family photo i once took on my Sony Cybershot camera way back in 2003 of my girlfriend back then. When i put it on my K750i (262k) the colour blending was terrible on the poor girls skin. I use this same benchmark on all new phones i buy, i put a picture on i know uses high colour depths. Every phone since my K750i has done well, since they have had 16m colour screens. The X10 id expect to fail.

I think SE have slightly dropped the ball here from a market point of view...

Missing the xmas period when a lot of people are looking for a new nextgen phone isn't good...

Currently there are options for people who want the newer faster cpu's with multi-tasking and something different to the Apple offerings...

The Droid has come out of nowhere, and we all know about the Palm pre. HTC are one of the best Android developers around but are also committed to WM and they will be announcing the HD2 tomorrow. There's also the Acer liquid...

A lot of next gen machinery all released by xmas available to a receptive market. If you are looking for a phone now...would you be willing to wait until March hoping Sony get it right?

Yes... why? because X10 is gorgeous. As mizzle said and rightfully pointed out, the android native apps do not lag. in fact they are very fast. The only lag is in SE custom software, which currently is being processed by the CPU and NOT the snapdragon chipset GPU.

SE has always been known for optimization and battery life. I have faith that they will deliver a worthy product. I also believe an upgrade to android 2.0 will surely come.

I for one will gladly wait for the X10.. even though i'm in desparate need for a new phone right NOW.

Someone who claimed to be an insider (i believed him, said some other stuff too, about certain icons being small etc, seemed legit ) said x10 has a compass

Also an update to 2.0 is confirmed:

"– Vi menar att användarna inte bara är intresserade av traditionella funktioner och specifikationer utan snarare av användarupplevelsen. Vårt fokus ligger således på en stark användarupplevelse genom applikationer som Sony Ericsson Timescape och Mediascape. Men det är viktigt att påpeka att vi kommer erbjuda kompabilitet med Android 2.0 för Xperia X10 i sinom tid, säger Gustaf Brusewitz, pr-ansvarig på Sony Ericsson.”

short translation: We want to make it right with 1.6 first, then we move on to 2.0 says Gustaf Brusewitz PR manager. (he even says its important to point out that we are gonna release a 2.0 version)

link (swedish): http://it24.idg.se/2.2275/1.266246/sony-ericssons-android-ar-har

puuh, well that answers some of the questions!

release a 2.0 version eh? does that mean a K700 to K750 type release? or simply an upgraded UX interface after the device has been upgraded to android 2.0?

As someone who jumped in head first into the K700 hype, I wish I would have waited for the K750, which was leaps and bounds superior to the K700. But at that point, I had already spent the $500 it cost ...

I would hope SE gets the X10 right on the first try and doesn't do a K700/K750 again cause i intend to jump on the X10 right away
