Just to add I'm also experiencing signal problems on my X10,X10 mini,X10 mini pro and also the 2nd X8 I bought 2 days ago. All are using O2 & Vodafone sim cards and are all sim free and no branding.
Returned the first X8 as it had a creaking screen and noisy battery cover (one of my minis is the same) and now this. Bought it for the missus as a spare to her x10 mini but i think it will be returned and get her something else.

Mine is fine no signal probs at all or build issues. When I had the X10 Mini & this X8 I experienced better signal than phones like the Elm for instance

I am still having connection issues and recently the phone has started disconnecting to any mobile networks. It'll show a nice 4 or 5 bar signal strength for a couple of minutes, but then it'll disconnect completely and you'll have to do a call or restart the phone to connect to a mobile network again.
Mine is a prototype, so I'm hoping that's why, but it is highly unusual behaviour for an almost-complete prototype.
Edit:
Nevermind, seems like it's an operator issue. They're experiencing network issues.
